I really don't get it, do I have to pay to recycle? Can I just get a recycle bin and put it out, then the garbage turck will pick it up? My mom says "if only recyling were free that she would do it."

  1. no... but you can get paid for doing it

  2. no

  3. no and in most cases the recycling company pays you in weight for what you bring especially metal.

  4. no, deffenitly not; if you recycle an almunium can that saves like 87% of the energy to make a new one. but im not sure if it is really 87%

  5. no way

  6. Garbage and recycables are divided by a thin line...in our

town, we have the regular garbage/trash truck and then we have a recycables truck pick up...we use red/orange recycling

bags (which is the established method)..the trash truck leaves them for the recycle truck or vise versa if the recyling truck get there first,it leaves the other bags.  There's no extra charge other than the monthly garbage bill...which is mandatory in our state.

  7. No it should be free.

  8. No, but you get $0.05 of you recycle bottles/glasses/cans/etc

  9. It depends on where you live; most big cities nowadays include a recycle bin as part of the regular waste/disposal pickup.  If the area you live in is serviced by private contractors, then the contract itself will determine if recycling is a part of the included service.  Regardless of who would be providing the recycling service to your house, it costs that provider money to provide that service... providing dedicated trucks for collection, maintenance of those trucks, route planning, sorting the collected goods, transporting, selling, disposing of unrecyclable goods that get thrown in, etc.

My guess is that recycling is NOT included in your basic service, most likely because the contract for your disposal service was from back in the days when the concept of recycling just wasn't as prevalent as it is now.

Maybe you can talk your mom into becoming a recycler by making a deal with her: you'll sort the recyclables (separate out the paper, plastic, metal), and she'll drive them over to the nearest recycling center where you guys can cash that in.  Most of the cost associated with recycling services comes from the cost of collecting and sorting the recyclables, so if YOU take the time to do that yourself, your neighborhood recycling center will gladly pay you for the recyclables you bring in.

good luck in convincing your mom.  it'll do all of us a favor!

  10. We shouldn't have to as the very exercise should profit society overall.

But the human condition creates this situation to charge where possible... and we've got to stop it.

Manufacturers over wrap our goods to enhance sales and give muffled lip service to the green movement, unless they can make more profit in providing green "labelled" goods.

The only thing they recycle...is the same old rhetoric..towards increased profit.

  11. you often get paid for bringing trash in for recycling

    like Aluminum beer cans

    and glass or metals

    and cardboard
