A friend of mine just told me that she just went to TJ and that the passport thing won't be finalized or implemented until June of 2008. Is this really true?

I had thought that since january 31, 2008, is when all U.S. citizens who travel by land need to have a passport to enter back into the U.S. Anyone know the current regulations? I need to renew my passport and hope to go to rosarito for spring break, and I know that it takes up to 12 weeks for passports to be distributed back.

  1. yeah. its true, I just got back last week

  2. yes, however you can just get the PASSPORT CARD instead, it was impplemented last month, 2008.

it's only $20.00 for adults and $10.00 for kids.

that works to go to Mexico, Canada and the caribean by car or boat. However if you are flying you need the actual passport instead $75.00 adults or $60 kids.

  3. You must have passports to FLY to Mexico.  Passports are NOT needed to travel  there by LAND or SEA .  This requirement has not been implemented and has no set date, but will prob. be summer 2009.  See site beoow and read top half of page carefully.  Passports and passport renewals are currently taking 4 to 6 weeks to receive.  You Can apply for a passport card now, but they are not being sent out yet...and the cost for an adult is $45.00 and for children it is $35.00...they will be good only for LAND travel.  See 2nd site

  4. I believe you need a passport to go anywhere outside of the US. dont hold me to it. Your local post office will have all the answers sorry i couldnt be of help
