  1. we should have smart regulated borders but can be closed in case of an catastrophic event but definitely not open borders.

  2. open all.   Interesting that Canada is not on the list.

  3. The solution is simple since most illegals are Mexican: The U.S. should have open borders with its neighbors, Mexico & Canada.  After that, keep the border open to all classes of workers as long as the English language as an official language is not threatened.

Deportation doesn't work if you can only deport to the U.S. border with a huge wage gradient pushing Mexican workers back north.

The U.S. has a special relationship with both countries. The U.S. stole 1/2 of Mexico, and Canada remains the only big thing the U.S. lost in revolting against Britain. Integrating Canadian workers into the U.S. might lead to Canada joining the union.

My CBC link to the online video "Run For Your Life" profiles illegal immigrants working in the U.S. sending $100/month back to their families, a small fortune in Central America, and unlike the myth Nic W says, the U.S. $$$ sent to Mexico comes back to buy U.S. products; otherwise it would be worth nothing.  Nic W, have you ever been to a Wal Mart lately.  We can't stop all trade in goods as well as labor to, as Nic W puts it, stop U.S. $$$ from leaving.  Think about it.

1st year books on economics say free trade, which includes labor, increases world productivity, which in turn increases wages, which in turn increases social spending.

All economic arguments against illegal immigration are false, so immigration is restricted because of xenophobia. At an extreme immigration could change a country's language or form of government; however, 20 % of Canada is foreign born, and only 13 % of the U.S. is foreign born, evidence of over-restrictiveness due to xenophobia.

I believe workers can best choose where they live in the world on their own. Every time a government immigration officer restricts someone, they force someone to work for a lower wage, lowering world productivity.

Americans are not against illegal immigration. I mean if Americans really really believe the original inhabitants should decide everything, then their ancestors would have gone back to England to humbly apply for visas and Green Cards from the Indians. What Americans really believe in is nations only have immigration rights they can defend, so there is no point in preaching to the illegal Mexicans to go back to Mexico to be "honest."

  4. Very regulated borders but we also need to make the system faster in order to receive citizenship or visas.

  5. We need definitely closed borders!  Too many illegals and terrorists sneaking into our country.

  6. We need to make sure that people in our country are legal.  We need to make sure that they pay taxes, and have the same rights as any other AMERICAN of foreign descent.

Fences, etc won't do anything in my opinion.  We need to start heavily fining companies who employ illegal aliens (Who only send American dollars out of the country, weakening our economy while embezzling our civil services) We need to run these companies out of business, and there will be no more illegal aliens!

Sometimes common sense is the best option.

  7. if we have open borders, might as well not have a border...we'll call our continent the Mexo-Amerinadian Fun Zone 5000

  8. we need closed border. we don't need no more immigrants than what we have

  9. every sovergn nation has a right to police or even close it's borders.an unchecked flow of immigrants historically causes incredible problems to the host nation. illegal immgrants have cost an ncredible amount of money in this country, realized in many ways including health care and undue stresses on infrastructure. ironically, mexico polices IT'S southern border with mexican army regulars to ensure that no south american illegals gain enrty to thier country. our nation needs to seal its southern border with mexico and do more to get good legal immgrants in here quicker.also, people who break the most simple of laws upon entry to our nation shouldnt be given the benifit of our hard work and labors. how can you claim to come in peace and with goodintensions when your first act upon our soil is to violate our sovergn laws?

  10. If the Chinese can build the GREAT WALL of China.
