Do we need others to understand ourselves...?

    I believe that others help us understand who we are. It can be difficult, if not impossible, for us to see ourselves objectively, and this is part of what makes us human.

    The interesting thing is, a gap exists between how we see ourselves and how other people perceive us - this is because other people judge us on our actions (behavior), and we judge ourselves based on how we feel about ourselves (self esteem/emotions).

    Because we don't access the same information as other people to understand ourselves, other people don't see the same person that we do!

    That's why I think other people's perspectives are valuable sources of information.  

    That said, other people can't define who we are. This is something only we can do - and doing this is our responsibility!
