Do we need "connections" to serve the Peace Corps?

I'm applying to volunteer with the Peace Corps, and I was wondering if having an inside source will increase a candidate's chances for the volunteer opportunity? Do they look at credentials or basically someone that knows somebody in the organization? Thanks in advance.

  1. I got in in 1970, and my daughter in 2007, on merit, without connections. It is hard to get in because the qualifications are high, not because it is a snooty club. You have to have a skill a host country has asked for, as well as high ideals. An appalling number of people who ask about the Peace Corps here have just the high ideals.

  2. You do not need "connections" to serve in the Peace Corps. You need volunteer experience, a completed application, and  a willingness to serve.  If you have not already done so, visit the site at http://www.peacecorps.gov I also recommend reading the book So You Want to Join The Peace Corps What to Know Before You Go

  3. All you need is experience.
