Do we need to apply for change of name in visas in case of name change in passport ?

After applying for a name change, I guess a new passport will be issued. In this case what will happen to the visas in the old passport? Can we retain the old passport? Do we need to apply for a change of name in the visas after the name in the passport has been changed, or is it not needed and we can continue to use the same visas in the old passport? Will there be any complications related to travel abroad as the visas bear old name, but the new passport bears the modified name?

My best suggestion is to have a name change observation in the passport and then once this expires, you can apply for a new passport in the new name. If you have to renew the visa, they will automaticalley change the name on the new visa once you have had the change of name observation done.

My wife just had tis done and it was cheaper than applying for a new passport and less hassle.

It depends upon which country you are in mostly, though often it's just a formality to have the visa added to your new passport. It can be an inconvenience though. Mostly it'll cost you some small processing fee, but no need to go through the entire application again.

when I got married, my wife changed her last name but kept her old passport.  when she travels, she takes along with her a certified copy of our marriage certificate to prove her new name change.

was the name change due to marriage or other?  either case I'd think the same - just get a certified copy from the county to show proof of your name change.

no, the old passport is obsolete and invalid now that you've been issued a new passport..u should check with the authorities on this issue.
