A few friends would like to establish an non-profit organization to help kids learn performing arts of Asian cultures. We try to understand the procedure of the organization application. One of issues we want to know is whether we need to file Statement of Information?

I will appreciate it very much if anyone can help on this aspect.

  1. Yes you  do, if that is what your state calls articles of incorporation. I think the statement of info is filed after articles in most states. They all have different names.

For a nonprofit you also need to file a 501-3c with the IRS to request non profit status. So you  have two steps. The IRS paper work is much more involved than the state documents.
