Do we pay too much attention to sport stars?

i have a debate tomorrow and this is our topic. but we are negative. so we are basically saying that we don't and I'm totally out of ideas. anyone got any? thanks in advance :]

  1. I'll throw in one for and one against.

    For: A career in professional sports is a low probability outcome for most people. We'd be doing a lot of kids, especially inner city kids, a favor by giving them more productive role models like engineers, business owners, doctors, etc.

    Against: Media is an efficient market that goes wherever consumers take their eyeballs. As such, we are NOT paying too much attention by definition. If we wanted less, we'd ignore the news stories and the writers would automatically look for other stories to regain our business.
