what do you think do we have freedom of religion or is it just freedom to choose what kind of Christian you want to be.

I personally know people who keep their religion secrete to avoid persecution from the Christian community

  1. We'll have freedom of religion when an atheist/wiccan/etc can run for president and it actually not affect their campaign.  Unlikely to happen anytime soon.

  2. Yes, you really do have freedom of religion, many soldier's lives were lost because of it.

I think that's pretty dumb that you have to "hide"' your religion, if you think it's the truth, I would imagine you would want to defend it, you have the right to.

For Christians, Jesus said in the bible that if you were a Christian, you would be persecuted for it, mocked and made fun of, so were already use to it and expect it.

  3. We sure do have freedom of religion. That doesn't mean other people respect you for it, or are even polite to you in public. It just means that we don't get executed for having a less-than-popular belief/non-belief.

  4. I dont think so at all.

Every religious group is persecuted from some other religious group.

That includes atheists too. Thats why i think religion overall messes up society.

  5. your freedom of religion does not include forcing your beliefs on others .

  6. Ya, according to the government we have freedom of religion.  It's just that the Christian religion seems to have a bigger population and more influence on our country.  I personally don't think so because people are so influenced by Christians.  There are too Christians trying to put their religion on others and it's not right.  Some people just don't have enough respect and so I really think that we don't have true freedom of religion.

  7. I feel that I am perfectly free to practice my religion (though I am loathe to call Buddhism a religion).  I wear my mala without fear of persecution.

That said, I have taken it off for job interviews and I doubt I could ever be elected to public office and be open about my beliefs.  Hmm, it appears that you may have a point here. :)

  8. Of course we all have freedom of religion. We are all given the right to make the choice to worship (or not) as we see fit.

That's why there's so many interesting debates on YA. :)

  9. yes....noone is forcing church attendance....thy sound like wusses..

  10. If the hot shots in Washington have their way, we'll soon be free of it altogether.
