What the advantages and disadvantages of International Phonetic Aphabet?

  1. Disadvantage:

    - you might come across sounds that do not appear in your language. Still, that's not a fault of the IPA, but simply a feature of languages.

    Advantage:

    - well, how else would you be able to find out how a word is pronounced if you don't have a native speaker ready at hand? If you study linguistics, hardly any word is going to cause you real trouble pronouncing because you have to learn the IPA symbols anyway. Every good dictionary gives them as well, so they really ARE a great help if only you bother to learn them - which is not that difficult, really.


  2. advantage- international business persons/ callers will be able to spell more clearly via telephone.

    disadvantage- like the metric system, no one will bother to learn it lol. an even worse disadvantage is that letters are not pronounced the same in all languages, making it pretty impossible for people to pronounce and interpret correctly
