Do we really need underpading under the carpet?

I have heard some , cleaners say you don't need itt!

Buy the best pad you can afford, the padding adds to the life of your carpet and comfort.

Why bother having carpet then. If your gonna lay carpet directly on the floor it's gonna feel as hard as the floor & it will deteriate much more quickly w/o the pad. The pad cushions the carpet & yourself.
