I was just watching a video of me and I sound so stupid, so is that what we really sound like in reality?

  1. I was told in high school that our voices sound different to ourselves than to others. It's something to do with the vibrations in our heads or something! haha. So that's why when you hear your voice recorded on video or whatever it sounds different.

Unless of course, your question is meaning that you didn't realise how much of a buffoon you were til you saw yourself on video!

  2. Yes - most likely.

When you talk, you are hearing your voice through your ears and through your bones and through your sinus cavities... so the vibrations that your ears hear are very different than when you are just listening to yourself... because when you playback your video, the audio comes through the air only.

If it is worth anything, not very many people like the way they sound when they hear themselves on tape... and pretty much everyone thinks they sound different on tape than when they speak.
