Do we require the amazon rainforest to breath?

Should the amazon suddenly dissapear overnight, do we all suffocate like a flies in a sealed bottle?

  1. No, the Amazon rain forest does not provide all the oxygen in the air, or even a major part of it. Neither does it remove all the CO2 from the air, or even a major part of it.

  3. The Amazon contributes a major part of our oxygen.  If it were to disappear, everything would suffer.  I suppose we would eventually have less oxygen, but we wouldn't all die instantly.  There are still other forests.

    However, the atmosphere would fill with more CO2 (according to the greenhouse effect), causing everything to overheat faster.

    With more heat, the ocean would rise faster from the melting icecaps.  As the ocean rises, there would be intire cities underwater.

    The Amazon disappearing would NOT be a good thing... Good thing it won't.  At least, not overnight -_-
