Do we truly grow up?

Grown Up

I sit

And look at you

As you stare unseeingly at me

Hour after hour.

Why can’t we do more than stare?

How I long

To run to you,

To hold you,

To love you.

To tell you

Everything that bottles up inside,

And frustrates me,

And makes me want to scream!

But I can’t…..why not?

So long ago

You held the key

To all my dreams.

And now you just sit there,

A mockery of my old self,

The old me,

The child

That always wanted to be grown up.

I used to tell you everything,

And I want to do it again,

But it’s impossible now…..

Big girls can't have teddy bears.

  1. Check out all women's rooms and you will most likely find a teddy bear or doll from when they were a child. There are times we all long for yesterday.

  2. The child within us never dies. I know of a Marine who has a teddy bear in his bed at home.

Nice ending -- unexpected. That is what poetry should do.

  3. I liked this one.
