  1. yes we do use it

  2. They were making gasoline and had all this yucky left over crud. Someone said 'what can we do with all that crud' and the plastics industry was born.

    No petroleum, no plastic.

  3. Yes.

Plastics are made from chemicals refined from crude oil.

  4. Yes, fossil fuels are crude oil, which is long chains of hydrocarbons which are modified to make plastic, therefore  the fossil fuels  are used to make plastic

  5. Most synthetics and plastics have their start as hydrocarbons made from oil.

And a correction to the above post that said "any time a light is turned on...". That's not true in all cases. I live where 100% of the electrical power is created by hydro. Nothing burned up here unless you drive a car around. ;)

  6. Yes and we should be pushing our cars down the road in a better way and we will soon; perhaps it will be with electricity or at least I hope such.  Yes, all sorts of things that we use (touch) are made from oil.  Even Chewing gum, paint, plastics, tennis shoes, crayons...  In short, we should be doing better things with oil.  All progress is change.  It is reasonable to adapt to ones environment and not try to change it.  Therefore, all progress is made by unreasonable people.  Be unreasonable and make the world a better place...
