Do wheels need to be greased?

I hear a rhythmic squeak coming from my car that gets higher and pulses with greater frequency as I speed up, it goes away at about fifty.

i'll bet the sound your hearing goes away when you apply the brake? the parts that are greased are wheel bearings, but I would find it very unlikely the sound would actually disapear at high speed rather the faster it got the more it would go from a squeak to an all out squeel. no I suspect you have rotors that are very slightly warped and the sound you hear is from the pad slightly touching the rotor once a revolution of the wheel.

It is not your wheels most likely it is either brakes,  wheel bearings, or if it is a front wheel drive it could be the cv joints on the drive axles have checked out by someone who knows cars. As it could cause major problems down the road!

Something in the brakes probably.  Either debris, or worn pads.  Wheels these days don't get greased at all, the hubs are closed assemblies that just burn out when they get dry, they usually don't squeak they howl or hum.  

You can try going in reverse kind of fast, and hit the brakes hard, then go forward like 20mph and again hit the brakes real hard.  If the noise gets worse after this it is likely you need pads, if it stays the same you may still need pads, or have something bigger caught up in there.  And if it goes away only to return a couple days later I would blame poor brake pad composition combined with natural humidity, unless you live in the desert.  If it goes away for good, then it was just debris and you are good to go.
