Do wimpy dogs make new pups wimpy too?

I have a female pitbull who is almost 4. She is very sweet and does not care who comes in my house, in fact she will go up to whoever and l**k them to death..... that's all she will do. I don't want a killer dog but a bark or a grrrr would be nice! THE PROBLEM, I am getting a bull terrier pup and I'm wondering if my pitbull is going to rub off on my new pup?

  1. Gaurd dogs? You want your new puppy to be a guard dog eh? I highly disrecomend that, useually when people train their dogs to growl or a simple deep bark when the door bell rings they end up making an attak when the door bell rings, so I don't suggest it.

Well, since it IS your dog you can if you want, but it might rub off the wimpiness, but it probably won't!

  2. No the dog may be vicious toward your dog making your wimpy dog playful.

  3. You should be glad your pitbull acts this way. they are NOT a breed that s a guard dog. pitbulls were bred to love all humans. she very well may make your new pup the same way.

  4. Congratulations on having a gentle sweet pit bull - not wimpy at all - the new pup will pick up behaviors from your existing dog - though why you want a dog to growl is beyond me.

You seem to want a watchdog, neither pit bulls or bull terriers are watchdogs, though clearly you are going more for the visual deterrent rather than a vocal deterrent - both macho looking breeds but useless watchdogs. When researching a breed and matching it up to your needs you would have realized that. A yorkshire terrier or a Lhasa Apso do the fierce dog act you seem to want from a dog when someone enters your house but I don't think that'd fit the image you seem to want to project

Good-luck with your new pup, remember train and socialize as both these breeds get bad press because of idiots treating them mean to get them to act mean sadly macho breeds attract that kind of following

  5. You are the wrong sort of person to own a Bull Terrier.  You should want both breeds to be as placid as your Pit Bull.  It is people like you who get these breeds a bad name.  I have seven wimpy Bull Terriers and i breed, wimpy Bull Terriers.  I use the word "wimpy" in the place of "excellent temperament"

I hope your Pit Bull trains your Bully and not you.

  6. The only safe way to have a watch/guard dog is to train in its behavior, not let the behavior develop. The way they train police dogs, the dogs think that the biting and the barking is a game, and it is good for both the criminal being chased and the cop. If you let the behavior develop, the dog actually thinks "Argg I'm going to eet you" seriously, which makes other dominance-related issues pop up(aggression towards your family, food aggression, toy aggression..). So, you need to to get your bull terrier professionally trained(perhaps in schutzhund classes) and then you will probably have to get a county/city registry for a "dangerous dog" or "professional guard dog".

By the way, even people friendly dogs(ie pitbulls) can be trained to be watch dogs, because, like I said, they think the barking is all a game, not real aggression. I've seen labradors in a schutzhund class once(it wasn't good enough for the competitions, but it did a fairly nice job.).

  7.   Well it is sort of a unpredictable thing.  It could, it could not.  It depends on how the 2 dogs react with eachother.  There are very many diffrent outcomes.  But you should be lucky you have a pitbull like that.  I'm sure you have heard it alot and probally get sick of it, so i will not go any furhter with it.  But you should see how they react with eachother if they get along changes is the puppy will want to be like it and if they just kind of ignore eachother then the puppy will just be what ever that puppy is normally like and if they hate eachover and fight then you should find a diffrent puppy because pitbulls can be very agressive and that would not be a good outcome if they hated eachother.
