BTW, I live in dry Colorado.

Also, can anyone suggest a really good swamp cooler for less than $200?

  1. Window coolers work better because they use outside air and not the same air over and over. and you wont find a good one for under 200. you get what you pay for.

  2. a portable swamp cooler will not work as well as a window mount, simply because of the way they cool. swamp coolers use water evaporation to lower the temperature of the air flowing through them. the problem will a portable unit is that they are only efficient if the ambient air is relatively dry. once you use one in a closed space for awhile the air becomes humid and the swamp cooler won't be able to evaporate the water to cool the air. that is one the reason that there are no swamp coolers in humid areas if the country like Florida or Louisiana. the air is too humid for them to work. check out the local home stores for the best price. i don't know of any units under two hundred. but there are some close.
