Do wingless fruit flies produce winged fly babies that can escape from a vivarium?

Im getting some poison dart frogs and have to feed them fruit flies. I know that it would be difficult for wingless fruit flies to escape, but what if they breed in the vivarium? Will they produce winged baby flies that can fly out of the mesh at the top? Is there any chance of them infesting my house?

  1. Probably, they will be babies with wings, because they just take the wings off of the flys, they didn't alter them to have no wings at all. you should instead of putting them in you should put them in a mesh topped box, you should put them in a glass bottle with some small holes, then put mesh on top of those holes.

  2. I would imagine these wingless fruit flies are genetically modified, in which case they will most likely produce wingless offspring, unless the defective gene is dominant.

If they are not genetically modified, but produced by treatment with chemicals at some point in their development, then they will probably produce winged offspring.

  3. So "they" remove the wings from all of those little flies, eh, coolest girl? Very funny!

If you don't know the answer, you shouldn't just make things up, it's very irritating!

Wingless fruit flies are bred that way. They actually have tiny, non-functioning wings. Since it's a recessive trait, all of the offspring will be wingless, UNLESS a winged fruit fly gets into your colony, and breeds with them. Fruit flies get into your house on fresh produce.

They won't infest your house unless there's a food source, which could be anything from fruit, to p**p in a snake cage- they can survive on many types of organic matter.
