  1. Women still face predudice but its not nearly as bad as it used to be. There are many double standards that women face which makes it really hard to be a women. For example guys can sleep with whomever they want and get high fives from their friends where when a girl does that she gets called a s**t.

But men also face predudice as well. Male nurses are often thought of as less of a man. This is not fair either.

So although women face alot of hardship it is a two way street.

  2. Everyone does. Women just tend to com[plain about it more.

  3. Yes they do in 3rd world countries.

  4. Employers don't worry that their male employees are going to take the odd 9 month career break.

  5. I don't think they do in the USA!

Maybe other parts of the world though, like say Saudi Arabia.

  6. Of course. For the simple reason we get paid less than men for doing the same job, and it infuriates the h**l out of me. I have to run my house, pay bills etc so why do I get less than a man??

  7. no...http://www.newswithviews.com/NWO/newworl...

  8. Well here you go! I have worked for two women and their dumba*ses! I have no respect for them at all! The good news is the men I work around, their just as lamo! We lose more work because of so many F-ups by both and it sucks! I'm ready to give up and move to the moon! Just look at your neighbors and mentally put them as your boss! You see what I mean? I remember the movie Invasion of the body snatchers and I think it already happened so I had better be getting on the run! In today's world you have stupid and pride crashing into each other and BOOM, a boss is made, and it doesn't matter if it's male or female! PS you can keep your points! I have plenty! Oh and I almost forgot! A college education doesn't help matters at all! You can't fix stupid!

  9. Darling, don't boss me around with your "give this,  give that"

would you please........... might get you the answer, that you would be most pleased with.

  10. real life examples-

being called a s**t (for no other reason than to be derogatory)

being yelled at to bare my chest or lift up my skirt

    getting groped

getting cat called on the streets

being harassed at work, reporting it & then being shunned

seeing a younger guy get promoted over me (i have more education & years of experience)

seeing media that caters to young men (r-rated movies)

not seeing women reflected in the media

    having little political representation

being belittled, not listened to by co-workers, on doctor's visits, etc.

being subjected to rude misogynist comments on internet message boards, comment sections on articles, etc.

yes, it is better than it was in the past. but it still exists and is still oppressive.

  11. Prejudices are a part of life. Nepotism, favoritism, Legacy, play a stronger role in discrimination than sexism or any other ism.

  12. Yes - despite girls achieving better grades than boys on average in school, girls still go on to earn alot less over the average course of their careers.  A male nurse for example ends up earning 40% more.

Traditionally female jobs like nursery nurse, teacher, nanny etc all earn less than traditionally male jobs like fire fighter, plumber etc

Men are still the ones who hold most of the power, in FTSE100 companies for example, most directors are male.  In parliament even though women make up 50% of the population - they still do not make up 50% of the MPs.

On TV, presenters who are male can be older like Bruce Forsythe etc whereas lots of female ones usually have to be young, slim, stunning.  Take news readers - the women MUST correct themselves - wear lots jewellery, make up etc whereas the bloke can be old and ugly.

Female pop stars too these days must be stunning and overtly sexual - the likes of Chrissie Hynde, Bananarama, Alison Moyet etc who were all stars in 80s (and had a look your average girl could achieve) would struggle in the current climate where stars need to be perfect.

Women are still judged on their looks way more than men - we live in a society which reserves the right to humiliate a woman considered unattractive - look at the treatment Ann Widecombe got - yet she was not famous for her looks, if you wanted to ridicule the woman all you had to do was look at her policies!

Cherie Blair too - she was a career woman, wife, mother and yet still the butt of jokes about not being model material.

50% of female murder victims are still killed at the hands of a partner or ex partner.  Most victims of domestic abuse are female yet because we live in a society which reveres the male when this is mentioned most of us also add men can be victims too - a valid point ofcourse but the majority ARE female.

Women also have the problem of being put down by everyone - there is a study in psychology where at the age of 3 children get the choice between a black or white doll - at this age selection is 50-50 but by age 5 even the black/ethnic minority kids are opting for the white doll - somewhere in their socialisation they have internalised the notion that white is best - more whites tv etc etc and I think the same thing happens with gender.

Women still have to do the lions share of menial jobs be they poor paid and part time or all the unpaid labour at home by way of housework.

Women still do the majority of the child rearing - again this holds them back in terms of being able to earn more.

Although women make up 98% of single parents - they get derided for it - the focus is on the 'problem' of single mothers NOT the problem of absent fathers - again showing how society takes the male side.

The majority of victims of sexual assault are women yet this crime is condoned by society given that 98% of the cases which the CPS thinks has enough evidence to go to court end in no conviction.

Instead, wholly disproportionate to the numbers - only the cases of the minority of unhinged females who make false allegations make the news.  (again people stick up for the men).

The depiction of women in net p**n etc is wholly mysognistic - using terms that are awful, no emphasis on the female pleasure, they are used/discarded etc etc yet your average woman will not object because as I say they either have not seen it/realised significance (or as Greer put it 'women have no idea how much men hate them' - she was not meaning all men ofcourse - just how phenomenon's like this are so mysognistic..).

Worldwide too - the poverty rates show women are much more likely to be poor, women suffer much more in times of war etc etc

Usually when people think of female oppression they think of women in islamic countries wearing a hijab yet I see the way western women are villified about their appearance, the way they have to almost prositute themselves etc etc as being just as oppressive..sure people can say wearing makeup, getting b***s done etc is all personal choice but if we lived on a dessert island we wouldn't do these things - and to what extent is something a choice when there are negative consequences for not doing it (ie being called plain etc)..

There are lots more examples - look at our Queen she is only in her position because there was not a male heir at the time.. swear words have lots of female derogatory ones and the worst thing anyone can be called is female genetialia!!??

More evidence of women bashing - none of which is new - look at Homer's Illyad or the biblical story of Eve - the theme is that women are the down fall of men - they lead to their downfall etc etc etc Witch trials etc too also indicative of this..

Oh and FTR too - although silly s*x discrimination cases make the headlines - the majority of cases brought amazingly are brought by MEN!

On marriage too women are expected to give up their surname - the ceremony still symbolises giving from one man to another - and women ALWAYS ALWAYS have a male surname - whether it is their paternal/maternal grandads, fathers etc etc

Girls too are socialised at an early age to be pretty decorations and carers - all girl toys usually have this theme be it bratz dolls, baby dolls etc all the emphasis is on caring for others and correcting yourself.

Boys toys on the other hand encourage innovation, rough play etc meaning kids are steered towards social roles.

A girl being boyish is quirky/accepted - tom boy.  A boy being feminine however is reviled - the word sissy being insulting.  Again indicative of how society rejects the female.  Boys will NEVER go to a film aimed at girls yet girls WILL go to those aimed for boys or with a male lead etc

The female is associated with illogical - over emotional whereas the male is associated with reason - logic.. during the enlightenment for example, white males put themselves at the top of the tree and genuinely believed women were neurologically inferior.  For all the talk of equality now - women/men still put women down.

Studies have shown for example that when a job ad is place with a salary of 40k not one female applies.  When the same job is advertised at 20k - then more females than men apply.  In school too boys are said to over rate their ability but girls underate theirs all indicative of girls learned lack of self belief in their abilities and societies inflation of men's/boys.

Look at the insulting headlines about boys not achieving at school - all of these carry the undertone that this is somehow contrary to the natural order - none of them say well done to the girls, instead they say there must be something wrong with the education system if this is the case!  Ofcourse they don't say either how women go on to get all the crappy low paid jobs anyways or how the pension women gets by comparison due to caring for others is appalling low etc

So the issues of prejudice/discrimination are not easy to quantify not least because not all women are discriminated against to the same extent and because males may have their own issues too.  Broadly speaking though as a social group women still face a disparity of power and have many more challenges to face and just because (as most teens/twenties women today) a social group does not feel oppressed does not mean that they are not - just that they are too close to the situation and too socialised by their cultural context to see things how they actually are.

  13. YES! Of course we do. I especially see it in academia. In my grad program, the males were treated specially and differently. They were allowed extra time to speak in class and presentations. They got better grades on assignments for doing less work and puting less thought and content into papers. They were also treated with more respect, even from the female professors.

  14. Very much so. Its always been since the beginning that white men are the most suitable for every thing. But don't believe in that.

Women today have a hard time looking for jobs because they are "girls". Employers would rather hire a 260lb man that can about any thing.

Take Hilary Clinton for example (not a supporter of her). Many people believe a women is not ready to run the United States. Reason being other countries will not take her seriously or women are not smart enough to run a country.

I truly do not believe in these statements.

My opinion is it will always be like this. Men will never take women seriously. Even though they can do just as much or more then men can do.

    I hope I helped.

  15. Hello,

(ANS) Of course!!,  women face real & very serious levels of sexual discrimination in our society even in the 21st century, its just a sad fact of life.

**Why, its called Patriarchy !!!!! & this has existed for the last 2,500 years or more and it doesn't look like its changing much. Feminist revolution or NOT (even in the post feminist era, post Greenham common era). Patriarchy still seems live well & still kicking as far as I can see.

**Men ARE prejudiced against women but are completely "in denial" of this fact. Why? because sexual discrimination is unconscious (outside of conscious daily awareness much of the time). It is VITAL to understand that men don't set out to consciously hurt or discriminate against women, its often NOT done with malicious intent.

**Women are still not really receiving equal pay rates when doing the same level of jobs as male counter parts.

**Women often don't end up with the same level of pensions due to old UK tax laws.

**Women and the glass ceiling in terms of job promotion.

**The lack of women in the board rooms of companies

**The lack of women in parliament, mainly due to the old boys club of politics and women unfriendly & family unfriendly way our parliament is run (its run as if it was back in the middle ages frankly!! its surreal).

How much more evidence do you want that our society is imbalanced by men and male established organizations and that this does work against womens benefit and therefore is discriminatory. I rest my case !!

    Ivan.

  16. Nope.. In fact, women in Western society have rights and special privileges that men don't even have.

  17. Yes, women still face prejudice and gender discrimination. Its not like I care anyway. I think its because women tend to be very picky and alway trip over things which really isn't such a big deal.

Being a misogynist, its like hating bugs. I don't think women deserve any respect since they brought all the negativity in this world.

  18. Yeah we still do.

Because of the high reports of women not getting jobs just because their women. Also i would know because when i went to apply for a job... i didn't get an interview and my boyfriend did! wtf?

  19. Yes they do, a lot less than they used to to be sure, but it is still there.

But on the other side of the coin, Men face a lot of prejudice and discrimination now too, and I would argue that it is as much as women do.

For example, I'm a student nurse (and male) and face discrimination in a predominantly traditional female role every day. I get told I cant do certain procedures on a woman because Im a man (there is no question of a woman doing the same procedure on a man), I often have to be chaperoned when treating female patients, and so on and so on. I also know men specialising in Midwifery, and they have it much worse. (One matron refused to let a midwife onto her ward because he was a man).

Also what about the courts? In cases of divorce or custody hearings it is a fact that women generally are percieved more favourably.

There are many other examples I can give, but I think now that discrimination exists just as much for both genders.

  20. I am with Capone on this, prejudices are a part of life.

Sad but true. And PC only makes people bury their prejudices and even increment them by means of resentment.

Why is that prejudices will always be with us?

Because they are a useful part of the process of thinking. They makes us take decisions in a faster way. And most of our prejudices are learn when we are of young age.

Lets put an extreme animal example. White Dogs. A white dog is a dog that will attack and kill black people on sight.

The reason is that the dog is beaten daily by black person (usually junkies paid for it) while its still a puppy and learn to have a resentment toward black persons. When it grow out, it just plain hates black people.

The same is true for all prejudices, although most are not as extreme as this one. A negative experience, or a negative teaching during the childhood will last until the death of the person unless a stronger impact is made on the sets of believes.

  21. Well the way i see it there's issues on both sides.

There are a few double standards, but these are mostly social. Such as the stud/w***e comparison.

But look at it this way, you have pretty much everything else, equal pay, equal oppurtunity, equal rights under the law etc.

And yes, there will be cases where women are discriminated against by gender, same as men, but as a rule discrimination isn't tolerated anymore than racism.

Smiley: The reason that the vast majority of single parents are mothers is because women are given default custody of children, the only time men get it is when she is obviously an unfit parent. The vast majority of "absent" fathers really only get every other weekend with the child if that, and still pay their share or more of the child upbringing.

Add that to the fact that 50% of marriages end in divorce, and that 75% of divorces are initiated by women and your beginning to see a pattern here.

Also, there's no way that i as a nurse would get paid 40% more than you just because i'm male, i know the study that gives you that statistic, and it was made over 15 years ago and the person who initiated the study admitted that they just overlooked any factors, such as education, training, initiative, ambition, work ethic.

There is absolutely no way i would get paid 30-40% more than you at any job just because.

Ivan: The reason that there are more men in the board rooms of the big companies is because more men HIRE ON at these companies, but i suppose we should just stick a bunch of women in there for the sake of "equality".

  22. YEAH?! it so annoying cause I've got ADHD and aspergers and when i read the book it goes on about guys having it not girls having it and the diagnosis is so late which is hard for me.

  23. :to the idiot who claimed that "girls get better grades than boys at school". So what? Girls are far, far less likely to do useful degrees (maths, comp sci, physics, engineering). These subjects are overwhelmingly male dominated and that's where the money is.

No-one except other feminists cares about female-dominated arts degrees. They are easy to do and unchallenging and that's why women get paid less. My company only employs applicants with BScs and that means that 80% of people in our well paid graduate positions are male.

    Make better decisions ladies.

  24. Yes they still do. So does everyone else to some extent.  It's how one deals with these experiences that really matters.
