jay is right.  the only thing i would add is that they get a pension per term served, so if they serve 2 terms they get double the pension.

this is how clinton was able to set up his extravagant office in harlem for a sum of about 354,000.  This was the most expensive post-presidential office ever in the history the US.  Congress generally budgets about 125,000 a year for this.  His first choice for the office would have cost 811,000 but the public outrage forced him into the lesser cost office.

Originally they get pension,  money to run an office and Secret Service protection. Since their pay as president is so small, with cost of living increases they might get paid more in retirement.
