the tunnel is the remant of the pacific electric railway that was abandoned 50 years ago. one way they could reuse it by building a new tunnel and then connect it to tunnel that leads to pacific electric terminal building in LA and use it to build a light rail lines using(san francisco's muni lightrail cars) and streetcars to serve echo park, and the rest of hollywood.

  1. I don't have the specifics, but it sounds like a brilliant idea.  The only thing you might run up against is a bicycle lobby, if LA has one.  There's a movement out there to convert old rail right-of-way to walking and biking trails, but it sounds like LA could use all the transit it can get.

  2. as long as it's structurally sound.  I say use it.  50 years of neglect could be expensive to repair.
