Do you ALWAYS have to use this method?

In school, we're taught the Jane Schaeffer writing method. Before that, I would just write...what sounded good...((middle school, elementary...)). I was wondering about other methods. In college, do we always use the Jane Schaeffer method, or are there OTHER writing methods? I'm also teaching my Grandma some writing tips, and it would be good to know. first answer, yea. I'm a sophomore in college, well I will be in the fall this year, in my freshman year, we didn't use the Jane Schaeffer method, it really depends on what school you're in.
