Question:

Do you Care? Why or Why not?

Im looking for well thought out answers please.

With real reasons.

Do you care about the environment and where its heading?

Do you do anything to help it?

Are you worried about the future for you and your children?

Why dont you do more for the environment?

Are there any programs you think should be made, or more available?

Im not asking this to be snarky or rude. These are just questions I really want to know the answers to.

I plan on changing/helping somehow, and I need to know what I can do to get people more motivated/active.

Why people DONT care, and what I can do.

=) Thanks.

  1. I do what I can. I recycle. I encourage others to do the same.

I'm politically active also to support the envirnoment. VOTE!

  2. I do care about the environment.  I do my part by reusing and repurposing things instead of throwing them away, and I refuse to purchase paper plates and plastic utensils.  We don't have recycling where I live.  I think we should stop putting everything in plastic and paper cartons and go back to glass.  That alone would make a huge impact.  I'm a believer in public transportation, but again, we don't have that where I live.  Many years ago I took the bus to Detroit everyday to work, and I loved it.  Those days are gone, and it's a shame.  I think global warming is a load of c**p, but I think we all have a responsibility to take care of the planet.

  3. Well, I feel like I have to answer this question...  This is one of the very few random questions that pop up that I feel compelled to answer...

I do care about the environment.  I recycle (as a matter of fact, we always bring are recyclable materials to the church, where a man brings them to the store, and puts them through the machine that gives you 5 cents for the bottle, and we use that money for the youth in our parish...we're not a rich parish at all).  Umm, so yeah, I recycle, I buy things that don't have excess packaging or pretty packaging (like, I eat cereal that comes in the bag instead of the box, etc).  I turn off lights as a matter of course when I'm not using them.  I use the curly, energy-efficient bulbs in my house.  I walk to work when I can (when the weather isn't terrible).  So, yeah, I guess I also do something to help it...

Worried?  I would say more like scared.  I watch those TV programs on National Geographic, the History Channel, the Discovery channel, etc.  And when they say how fast the glaciers and ice caps are melting, how high our seas are going to be in such a short period of time, and how many species of animals/insects/mammals are going extinct because of global warming, I get really mad.  My philosophy is: this is your home too.  You don't see animals wiping out entire species at a time.  So why should humans be allowed to do it?

Why don't I do more?  Umm, I don't have time to be an activist, but I was in the Environmental Club in high school (didn't have one in the younger grades) and I encourage other people to do what they can...  But sometimes, I think "well, yeah, I might be good about doing certain things, but I really don't feel like I'm making any sort of impact".  It feels kind of useless sometimes, but now it's more of a habit than a conscious action (like when I turn the water off in the shower and when I'm brushing my teeth).

Hope that helps.  I mean, I think people need to be made more aware of what harm they're doing to the environment, and how to make it better, but also, I think that the people who care about the environment and do what they can to save it need to be told "well, you use energy-efficient lightbulbs, so this is how much power you save", etc.  When you see things like that in figures and numbers, it makes you think, "well, maybe I can make a difference"...
