Question:

Do you (Liberals) really think we're afraid of hope?

I've heard asked countless times, sometimes in jest but often in real concern, if conservatives are actually afraid of hope and change. I hope that I will be able to use those two words again someday, as they have currently been beaten to death by Mr. Obama.

It seems like an ignorant question to me; I'm not frightened by either, naturally, but I think it's wrong to assume that Obama's word "hope" means happiness for everyone with no implications for all eternity. There's no such thing, but Obama seems to have brainwashed the left into believing so.

I know I'll get answers from Conservatives, and that's fine, but I'd really like to hear what Liberals have to say.

  1. "There's no such thing, but Obama seems to have brainwashed the left into believing so."

Do you really think you know what the "Left" believes?  How many people fall into your definition of the "left"....and exactly what makes a person "left"?  Is it the abortion issue?  The Iraq issue?  I suppose it's more convenient to just categorize with a broad brush....I will agree that it makes things much less complicated....albeit often inaccurate.  Perhaps your understanding of what the "Left" believes is as incorrect as the belief that you accuse some people of having about conservatives - another vague label.  To answer your question - some people fear those who would criticize their parties position...the conservatives have had their time in the presidency and it has been a disaster...War, deficit, Katrina, Plamegate, Housing crisis, ....many many scandals....I wouldn't say that Bush/McCain supporters are afraid of hope - I would say they do not want this republican administration examined or scrutinized too closely....for obvious reasons.

  2. Speaking from the middle of the road, I say Obama despite any real or perceived flaws, represents change and since the entire country has suffered terribly at the hands of the most corrupt leadership we have ever seen, any change denotes good and hope. I was for McCain but I have to say after his comments re not knowing how many houses he owns, I find it impossible to identify with this man.

  3. i'm not sure,  your kind is all ways pointing fingers and blaming everyone else and are to afraid to look in the mirror

you have moved the centrist line so far to the right in your own heads that if anyone doesn't agree they are leftist.

  4. Well Basta, I notice you said we in your question. Therefore It seems like you have accepted being painted with a broad brush. I don't think most people are totally conservative or totally liberal, but a mixture of the two. For instance, I believe that I can prove that you are not a true conservative. Here are a list of questions for you that will determine if you are a true conservative or not.

1 You work hard all your life and pay into a retirement fund ran by your company- should that fund be guaranteed to be there when you retire?

2 Do you believe there should be a minimum wage?

3 Do you believe there should be a law against price gouging?

4 Are you against companies relocating and moving jobs overseas and getting tax breaks to do so?

5 Do you think no bid contracts that go to businesses that contribute to certain political parties should be illegal?

6 Do you believe that voters should determine government policy more then corporations?

If you answered yes, to any of these questions, you are not the conservative that you believe you are. Let's be independents and put pressure on both parties to do what's best for america.

To answer the question best, I believe that you  have no fear of hope, but the definition of conservative is " Status Quo"- no change!

  5. Personally, while I favor Obama in the election, I don't really have any hope for change.  Maybe small-scale change, but Obama is doing what any politician does...using broad, vague terms like "the audacity of hope" to inspire people to vote for them.

The only way to have influence in this, or any other, country, is to have money.  That or be one of the one-in-a-century types like Gandhi.

  6. Conservatives do fear change, or at very least, are opposed to it.  That is the very definition of "conservative".   They prefer everything to be status quo.
