I like the Name DIAMONDBACKS.  It's a baseball reference and a venomous snake.  Cool.  But I don't understand why the mascot is Baxter, a wildcat.

BTW, the name DODGERS goes back to when the team was in Brooklyn.  The players and the fans had to DODGE the Trolleys on the way to the park. The original name was Trolley Dodgers.

As A Yankee fan, I'd like to say that I am not a fan of my teams name. The Yankees were socialites in London who were all men who met to discuss fashion and...fornicate with one another. This is what a Yankee is. In fact, if you break down the song Yankee Doodle Dandy:

Yankee doodle came to town riding on a pony

(cause a real man would ride a horse, not a pony)

Stuck a feather in his cap and called it macaronni

Cleveland Indians - yes, I like the name. The Dodgers got their name from back in the days before they moved to LA, when they were in Brooklyn. I believe it was the trolley dodgers; back then, instead of buses, they used trolleys which were kind of like buses and they had to dodge them. So - the trolley dodgers aka Dodgers. At least that is my understanding of it. If I am wrong someone can correct me but I think that is it.

Reds is a weird name. They should be called like the Flames or the Blazers or something.  The Dodgers play in Los Angeles, not Anaheim.  (You're thinking of the Angels =P)

The person who gave the origin of the Dodger name was correct they were the trolley Dodgers because fans had to dodge the trolleys to get to Ebbitts Field.  It was just shorted to Dodgers.
