Do you REALLY think it's okay to hate someone because of their Sun sign?

Question

Why do you think that people tend to pick out certain sun signs to dislike?

Is this human nature, ignorance of astrology, or just immaturity?

Or is there really something in our basic human nature that causes us to dislike a certain group of people based on the traits of one Sun?

Skeptics, mind your manners or be reported.

no not at all bc everyone is different for the most part...really you may share certain trait bc of your sun sign but it's not all about that either!!

But I would be very weary on dating an aries again lol j/k kinda :)

I don't think it's okay to hate anyone over something they can't control (race, s*x, gender, Sun Sign, etc.)

I remember a guy asking me this, and he was like, "So, if someone is a sign you don't like, you won't be friends with them?"

My reply was that, chances are, if they were of a sign I didn't like, I wouldn't like them anyway.  The people in my life that I couldn't stand (there really weren't that many) were all under signs that I completely hate anyway.  Certain signs display certain traits; certain traits are intolerable to me.

Well, in my opinion, I say that is it not okay to hate someone because of their Sun sign. It's kind of like racism to me. Sun sign bias is pure ignorance, but I guess you'll hear all sides to it.

I would say that it is ignorance of astrology the most, but it is also human nature, and immaturity as well...it depends on the case we're looking at. The fact is, we can't get along with everyone right? Chances are that these people have had more than one bad experience with a certain sign, and may even have them littered throughout their family. Automatically they are conditioned to form a radar in their head that goes off whenever this specific sign comes along. They fear the consequences that they have dealt with before, and assume that it may happen the same way...They may not even choose to feel biased, they just can't shake the feeling that things may take a turn for the worse.

Of course, there are also the people that know nothing of astrology, and forget to take into account that the world is not divided into twelve. The immaturity takes place when the contests and ego stroking start to take place, and eventually it all evolves into one big mess.

I guess you could give a million reasons why people do this..but the reason I lean towards ignorance as an explanation is because I associate closed minded behavior with ignorance. Those that are willing to think and learn a little bit will realize that there is more that meets the eye, and that you cannot be so hasty to jump to conclusions...

No.  When a person repeatedly picks on certain sun signs, that means they cannot be content enough with themselves to let go of their bad experiences with a particular sun sign. They are unable to mentally move on from being slighted, so they blame an entire sun sign for this.  There are too many variations from person to person to have all [insert sun sign] be undesireable people.    

Although its probably healthy to get a little of the hate out, when a person takes every single opportunity to bash a particular sun sign, they appear obsessed and juvenile, and I don't take them seriously at all.

I believe it is immaturity and ignorance.  Lately I've seen a lot of very caustic and hostile words on this forum, and I'm really not enjoying that at all.  

Good question, maybe it will have a positive effect?!

Bigotry and stereotyping are naturally built in. Is it pleasing, when you find out a birthday that you were right to hate somebody? How often do you see people in this section upset that they are not like their chart? Or don't want to be like it. I bet Geminis just love being known as two-faced. That is what snaps in the heads of many though it is denied.

Not knowing sun signs forces you to see others as they are. Not what you think they should be. I'll admit that if someone was checking me out, using my birth sign, dislike enters my head. Astrology though ancient makes changes, but not for the better. "Modern" astrologers can make better rules, just like they make up attributes for new planets and asteroids. They can say "due to our research, we were wrong about compatibility issues. The stats proved us wrong. Sorry." But that is too big of a risk.

If there was no such thing as astrology there is plenty of other stupid excuses to hate each other. That is unfortunately more likely human nature. Wars are fought mainly for greed and/or religion. Not birthdays

You can't help who you hate. No it's not right to hate on someone based just on thier sign. But you can hate whoever you want. It's up to that person being hated on to..."brush it off their shoulders."  In other words...Keep doing what you're doing.  Hate is inevitable...or at least dislike.

No! lol.. how ridiculous does that sound. It's because of those three things you said. It is human nature to hate on others, ignorance of astrology is very popular in the horoscope section especially with the people that dont know anything about it except for the 'sun signs', and everyone can be immature in their own way.

Though there are those people who have been hurt or had a bad experience with a certain sun sign so they hate them all. Then again everyone has their own different opinion, this is just mines.

To hate is a detriment to you. The absence of God is hate. Did you ever know someone that was consumed with hate that was a happy person ? Are you happy when you hate someone ? Does it make you happy ? Do you want to be happy ? Hate is also a four letter word.

I read the question as: Is it okay to hate someone <i>because</i> of their sun sign. Meaning, if it is okay to hate someone because of the traits that sun sign causes them to have and not simply because they have a certain sun sign.

To be honest, I don't hate anyone. I dislike a lot of things yet I have fortunately come only a few times very close to feeling hate for someone else. The people that do rub me the wrong way are the unreliable, the people who cheat and lie, the ones that cannot be loyal and trustworthy and the ones that try to gain personal selfish happiness at the expense of other human beings. I have met a lot of Scorpios that fall into those categories and plenty of Cancer and Leo too. Yet I don't hate someone at random because of the sign they happen to share with people that happen to have certain traits in their personality that I dislike.

I agree with Jamie that it involves a situation of not wanting to be hurt again. Long ago, I was badly hurt by an Aries. When I started dating again, I was attracted to more Aries men, and it was like repeating cycles. There were so many similar things about them that I wanted to take out a inkstamp and stamp the word ARIES on their foreheads. Over time, I learned that the good, bad and ugly similarities weren't just about them being Aries. It was also about me being a Pisces, having Mars conjunction my Sun and Venus, and having Libra Rising with Libra Moon.

Since that time, I've learned that my clashes with other persons has much to do with aspects in their chart and mine. It is usually not just one aspect either, but a combination of them.

The older I've grown, the more I've come to see that going only by a Sun sign is not only judgmental, it would put me in an unsafe position of underestimating someone.

It's a little of all of those things plus limited life experience regardless of age.  There are 6 billion people on this planet.  But if someone has bad experiences with 2 or 3 people of the same sign then all of that sign is bad.  Maybe it is a math issue too. lol  Maybe it is wanting to catagorize a bad experience in order to avoid it in the future ie A Scorpio hurt me so if I avoid Scorpios in the future I will avoid being hurt.  It is faulty logic.  There are @ssholes of every sign.

ones liking or disliking as one thinks , is not done voluntarilly.if any body tries to hate or like persons of particular sign it is only due to his h'scope influence only.we like some without kn owing their h'scope.similarly hatred.we do not know them also..then how this liking/hatred is happening.if in ones h'scope out of the 3 signs ie;5th,7th and 11 any two signs ,their star lords and cuspal sub lordsw happen to have link with the other person-any s*x- then love/affection/friendship etc..happens wether u know them or not.even if it is accidental mkeeting in a flight, hotel etc..still u immeadieatly meke frienship with them..similarly if the same houses have link with other persons 6,8 and 12 th houses then hatred developes.all are instentaneous.no body first searches for the others sun sign and then think should he hate or not. but as many said some people may develop the attitude of hating certain sun sign people .by this we can know his signs without his telling.his attitude speaks his h'scope.  but developing the attitude of hatred is not good for mind.basing on ones sun sign or any other planets sign is not wise.it is other wise. i found a very good question after a long time here.

I think in a way that it's a defense mechanism for some people. They have a really messed up experience with a person from a particular sign and to protect themselves from further hurt they become cautious of all that belong to that sign. I've seen it time and time again, not just on here but with friends and family too. I, personally, don't judge based on signs period. I judge on character and personality and won't dislike anyone until I'm given a reason to.

Only if you're a Capricorn, Aquarius, or Leo female. Personality is key though. Some are cool while others you either enjoy to hate them or they make it their mission to be hated more then anyone. A lot of the time they (Capricorns) purposely do want to be hated.

It's never okay to hate any one. Some people are more difficult for some people to deal with, but that's no reason to hate them. And in my understanding of astrology, that person, that bundle of characteristics that are so hard to deal with are put there in your chart so you can learn how to handle them and get along with them because it's the karmic thing to do. Lol, it's just pure ignorance if they ACTUALLY dislike someone because of their sign. Your Sun Sign is, afterall, only a general outline (if even that) of your personality. Some can be pretty accurate, but I think you have to be conscious while you read. Some of the information is pretty universal that most people can relate to. However accurately categorizing everything is pretty amazing.

I believe it's human nature to just hate in general and it is very immature.

Some people need to hate to feel accepted because they are sheep, people are followers, than there are the leaders, they hate because they are filled with so much pride. They think they are the best sign so they bash on their opposite sign or a sign they're jealous of.

It's only human to hate as it is only human to lie, but hating on a particular sign, like Rachstar said, is like racism. It's is completely wrong and immature. Some humans, however, throughout their whole life never lie (ha!) or hate (yeah right!) or so I've been told. They must be angels.

I think it's mostly ignorance and misunderstanding. There are certain signs I'm less likely to get along with, but I know it's because our personalities are so vastly different (or too similar), not because my sign is good and their's is bad.

There's a lack of empathy for people who struggle with different challenges and hold different ideals. Being social comes naturally to me, but that doesn't mean I think anti-social people are somehow inferior. They probably excel in areas I don't.

Judging someone strictly on their sun sign is just plain idiotic. And hating someone for it is even worse.
