It seems unlikely until China overtakes US as world no.1 power.Americans and others were dissatisfied and they will in future try to defeat any bid from China for hosting Olympics. They will play in Arab or African countries but not China.

Sorry China, this is last time you will be seen in top of medal table.Next Olympics is in London and there are strict immigration policies and you cannot send your under-age gymnasts.

  1. China is not likely to take over as world no.1 power in our lifetime.  It will take quite a long time to achieve this.

The next likely place in China to hold the Olympics would be in Shanghai.  That would not be until 2020 or beyond.  They choose the 2016 Olympics next year, but I doubt China would get it.  Paris was runner's up for 2012.  The IOC decide which country holds the Olympics and the US is only one vote in many.  They choose host cities by checking if their host countries can finance them.  Also, the Beijing Olympics is a great success.  China would definitely be considered for hosting another one later.

Us Americans should stop with the sour grapes about the underage gymnasts.  Even if we claim back 4 gold, the Chinese still have more gold medals.  4 years later, those gymnasts will definitely be older than 16 years old and will still be eligible to compete in London.  Countries look at passports to enter a country and the Chinese government makes them for their gymnasts.

In the past few Olympic games the USA, China, and Russia has been on top of the leaderboard in medals.  Its no fluke.  Any of these countries have a chance to be on top.  It won't be the last time for any country, dude.

There are 205 IOC members.  There are about 200 countries in the world, but there are members like Hong Kong, Taipei, etc.  Each has 1 vote and if the US nominates one of its cities, the US cannot vote.

  2. I can bet you anything this would not be the last time the Olympics will be held in China. Unless the world is ending, China will most definitely host the Olympics again. They have done a wonderful job and nobody has proven anything yet on the ages of those gymnasts. How come United States get to host the Olympics and China doesn't when United States have more doping Athletes than China? Are you saying it is unacceptable for a girl that is accused of being underage compete while it is perfectly acceptable for an athlete to take steroids to enhance their performances?

  3. Maybe

  4. Absolutely, when the sports of "Champion dog eating" and Smog Breathing" become official events.

  5. Why not they have hosted a successful Olympics no bombs going off over there and I bet everyone felt pretty safe.

What made me laugh though was that Britain have strict immigration policies and I would say a lot of Brits wouldn't  agree with that statement.

The gap in the gold medal count between the U.S. and China has been decreasing ever since 1996.  As the gap was only 3 in Athens, I've been under the impression that China would've had the most gold medals this time around in 2008 had the host country been anyone other than the U.S.  They might not have gotten as many gold medals, but I still think they would've had the most gold medals.

  7. Certainly would but until China overtakes US and becomes big brother in the world, because then nobody would create noises with reference to human rights, free Tibet, polution, tight security, underage, and etc......

  8. To Shailesh G,

I can tell you now that China will dominate the Medal Tally from this Olympics and last at least during the rest of you life. Hope this reality will not shorten you life.

  9. Shailesh G, you are so absurd. What makes think China will not be able to host Olympic again? Your short whining description of Americans, Arabs and Medal tally only proves you were off logical sense while putting down the question.

If you look back,  China wasn't as improved as it is today hosting the Olympics before they got the hosting rights. If they continue to improve from all angles, they will definitely be able to host the games again, it is only a matter of which city though.

In terms of who gives the voting rights, sure U.S has right to vote, but it is only one vote. Plus if voting China to host is of America's best interest,  they will vote China.

If your sole objective of the Beijing Olympic is the games itself, may I ask that has Beijing and its government and most important its people delivered so far? It is no one's fault that Team America hasn't got as many golds as they used to, I still believe they have done well though. China only strangthened its lead in country's traditional stronghold like diving, weightlifting and table tennis, they have not eaten other's lunch too much (events like swimming, track/field, rowing and C/K). And you know what, to accommodate American viewers, China even moved the swimming events to morning which may have played a role in Team Australia getting less medals than before. And who is beneficiary? Team America and its great Phelps.

  10. IOC decides who will host the Olympics,  Their decision is non-political.

  11. d**n, China will win 2 less gold medals in London.  d**n the UK for their strict policies!  That's a huge blow.

  12. Well you seem to have already made up your mind.

They might have to wait another 50 years. Incredulously some Aussies are talking about a bid for 2020 in Brisbane...I doubt!

  13. Not seeing any problem with them hosting it again.

Its not like a terrorist planted a bomb and killed and injured people. When you consider the differences, you can really seen how badly blown out of proportion this whole gymnastics thing is.

1972 Munich- 11 athletes killed by terroists.

1996 Atlanta - a terrorist bomb detonates in the olympic park, causing the death of two people and the injuries of over 100 others.

2008 Beijing - 3 Gymnasts may or may not be 16 years old.

    Yeah, thats just utterly horrific.

God some people need to get a grip on reality.

  14. Why wouldn't they be able to host another Olympics?
