She has had some dismal results in the past two years. Do you think she has the motivation to continue? Do you think she has a chance of retaining better results?

  1. In all fairness the same was said of many players who are thriving on tour and are much older.  I think Mauresmo's needs to take the time to heal her body like Serena did and suffer the low rankings and come back blowing all the nay sayers away.  These breif comebacks are destroying her.

  2. I don't think that her career is over, even though from her results of late, it would indicate that it is. People are unjustly giving her a hard time these days. But with the injuries that she has had over the last two years, it has really hurt her career.

She is struggling at the moment, but I watched her match with Serena today, and she really did impress me. Even though she was helped a lot from bad playing by Serena, the fact that Mauresmo was mentally tough enough to force that first set tie-break is a breakthrough for her, especially against an opponent like Serena, whom we expected to win this match easily.

She just needs to get a few big wins under her belt and perhaps win a few tournaments here and there and in no time she will be back to her greatness.

Remember at age 30, Mary Pierce, whom everyone had written off from the game, created one of the biggest comebacks in tennis, by getting to the finals of two Grandslams, winning two Tier 1 events and ending 2005 as the number 5 player in the world. So for Mauresmo anything is possible.

Besides with all the injuries and lack of motivation that she has being going through these days, Amelie did get to three finals last year and did won the Proximus Diamond Games. And this happened all in an “injury-plagued” year for her.

  3. It depends. If she is happy to play and be ranked in the 20s, if she still really enjoys the game, then no, I don't think it is. Remember not everyone has to be number 1, look at Santoro he is very happy just to cruise along. There are many players like this. I thought Mauresmo played a great first set against Serena last night, I havent been as enthralled in womens tennis for a long time- neither content to stay at the baseline and both with big serves. However, if she is dissapointed with herself at the moment and isn't enjoying it as well as the injury factor, then yeah sure, she will prob retire soon. It isn't like I'd be surpised. I hope she sticks around tho, I love the way she plays and I am sure she has the game to cause some upsets.

  4. HAVE LEARN NEVER TO SAY NO FOR SOMEONE! SHE KNOW WHAT SHE WANT AND I WISE HER GOOD LUCK

  5. I think her career is over. I dont think the motivation is there anymore and it`ll only be a matter of time until she retires.

  6. sure, she's done. at 28 she's all washed up. if she hasn't already, she'd better find herself a man (or gal) and get married.

  7. I think when she won the australian open and wimbledon she was essentially finished at that point. her whole career was about her not winning a slam until that year and she was able to do it twice. i think she might have the occasional good slam but she should retire in the next couple of years.

  8. i think she is done... she looks tired and doesn't have the motivation. She had her success when she won Wimbledon a while ago. I think she is not getting any better.

  9. Yes I agree with the 1st two responses here.  Her motivation is lacking and the results and her ranking show it.  She is probably just staying on the tour to make good money while she can.

  10. she is not looking too good this year....... i was hoping grass would bring back the best in her.. but no,, she did not have it in her.. its a pity though, because with justine henin gone, mauresmo is ultimately the best serve and volleyer and all court player around.. mauresmo is one of the few women  willing to serve and volley.

she is also one of the few women players that has the all court game.. just lacking firepower and punch in her shots.. especially lately

i think mauresmo may be finished next year if she keeps faltering and does not progress more then what she has this year, i hope at the US OPEN she can get some confidence back, and play well....  but again it will be difficult for her  with some dialed hard court players who have big power games...

i doubt mauresmo is going to want to stick around if she keeps spiraling down..

  11. Hope so.  Not a fan.  She can take the Williams sisters with her.

  12. egads i can't believe the mean and horrible sentiments toward her. what has she done to anybody exactly? she's been one of the most decent player's that tour has boasted in the last decade. completely without ego. i'd hate to see her go like this especially if there is a glimmer of a chance she could play the way she did in that first set against serena. i would hope that ultimately, this will give her some confidence knowing she is still capable of being competitive as such....it's actually the best tennis she's played since last year's eastbourne tournament.

and hey you never know, remember injury plagued mary pierce? she was so far away from contention for such a long time since her win at RG in 2000,and then suddenly 2005 she found this incredible form that saw her get three major finals and win two tier 1 titles. and mary is coming back again soon after a horrendous knee injury in late 2006 that has kept her out. and she's 33!. and also look at davenport? if those two can stay with it for as long as they have, then mauresmo certainly can.

***forgive me,i had forgotten that you made the same equation of mary. but bears repeating,i think.
