  1. Breeder are good because they really care about what happens to the dogs- that is RELIABLE breeders. I would suggest reading the book "Puppy Parenting" by the Beverly Hills Dog Divas. They have a list of questions to ask breeders. Breeders can be expensive, however, so you may not want to go that way. However I would recommend going to your local shelter and looking for dogs there- that's where I got my dog and he's really great.

  2. You buy pets from breeders.

NEVER buy an animal from a pet store, they use mass breeders and that can cause all sorts of problem with the animals.

Best advice is to go to a shelter and adopt an animal. You might not get one that is a purebred, but only D-Bags care about that.

Plus you will be saving an animals life!

  3. All my pets (even the birds) are from a shelter except for my Standard Poodle, because I wanted an AKC dog that I could compete with in agility events. (Not to breed, he's neutered.)  He's not going to be great at it, but it'll be fun.

  4. My first choice is always to adopt one from a shelter.  Giving him or her a second chance at life is the most rewarding thing you can do.

If there is a specific breed you prefer, there are rescue societies for just about every breed imaginable.

Here a just a couple of examples, from poodle to great dane !

Just type whatever breed and 'rescue' in google.

    Good luck !

  5. Adopting is giving a homeless pet a home, but there are fees included in that as well. It's mandatory for the animals in a shelter to have all their shots up to date and be neutered or sterilized, and you'll have to pay for that compensation.

I prefer adopting from shelters, as petstores usually have no idea what they're doing, aren't specialized, and overcharge horribly. Shelters have profiles on their pets, and you're giving someone back a lost home.

  6. I adopted my dog and 2 of my rats, and my other 3 rats I got from a breeder.

I work in a pet store, and I would still never buy a pet from there. I just can't support that. What I can do is work there, take their money, and make sure the animals I care for have the best care they can get. :P My particular store is not bad regarding care, but there are so many that are that I think it's too big a risk to buy from one. Not to mention they buy poorly bred animals.

I'm a huge dog person, and I don't plan to ever buy one from a store. There are just too many out there that need homes. Puppies, older dogs, purebreds and mutts. <3

  7. i've done both. if i want a pedigree dog, the chances of getting one at the pound is very slim. adoption is best

  8. When looking for a new pet, I always look into adopting first, my second choice would be a breeder before a pet store.

  9. I will not purchase from a pet store. For me, reputable breeder or a animal sanctuary all the way. I really like it if I can see the Dog and play with them on site before deciding to adopt.

  10. Adopt. Pet stores puppies are from puppy mills.

  11. Definitely adopt. If you wait long enough you might even find the exact breed that you want up for adoption.

  12. Both! We wanted a English Bulldog, Great Pyrenees, Min-Pin - so we went with a reputable breeders

Also help with the local shelter and have fostered and kept a few that we just could not say goodbye to when the time came!!!

NEVER a Pet store and A breeder if a good one is not bad at all! You never see a purebred at a shelter unless serious circumstances are involved! (death etc etc)
