Do you agree in making swimming as one of the world's major sports?

I watched the olympic games yesterday & during the victory ceremony on the men's relay wherein the committee gave recognition to Michael Phelps as the most outstanding athlete, our local sportscaster mentioned about making swimming as one of the major sports like football, golf, tennis, boxing that have tournaments. And that Michael Phelps will be a source of inspiration for encourage people all over the world to swim.

Do you agree with it? For me, that's fine coz swimming is my fave sport.

first off swimmingg is not a sport its acompetitionn a race just a race. there is no defense no offense and u cant see what youropponentt is doing  phelps is not saying i have to beat the guy 4 lanes down he cant see him he is trying to beat the time clock. good for phelps he has worked hard i hope he makes alot of $$$ but as the best athletee in the world no way as a pro sport no way.

Swimming is a major sport.. with Year round tournaments/championships.

Sectionals, Nationals, International tournaments, as well as the FINA World Championships.

it is a major sport, its just never televised because there are so many meets going on at once, for instance, Sectionals, Jr Nationals, Nationals, Olympics Trials, International Competitions, FINA world championships, etc, and then there are the 1000's of other meets that go on around the country, and there is summer league swimming.

the reason people dont think about it as a big sport is because its almost never televised also because most people dont want to watch 10 year old kids swim, but at meets like sectionals, the press is often there to cover all the up and coming swimmers
