  1. I do. An eye for an eye...

  2. no ...only god can decide who lives and who dies

  3. I supported capital punishment for a long time, but I have changed my stance over the years, for several reasons:

    1. By far the most compelling is this: Sometimes the legal system gets it wrong. In the last 30 years in the U.S., over 100 people have been released from death row because they were exonerated by DNA evidence. Unfortunately, DNA evidence is not available in most cases. No matter how rare it is, the government should not risk executing one single innocent person.

Really, that should be reason enough for most people. If you need more, read on:

    2. Because of higher pre-trial expenses, longer trials, extra expenses associated with prosecuting a DP case, and the appeals process (which is necessary - see reason #1), it costs taxpayers MUCH more to execute prisoners than to imprison them for life.

    3. The deterrent effect is questionable at best. Violent crime rates are actually higher in death penalty jurisdictions. This may seem counterintuitive, and there are many theories about why this is (Ted Bundy saw it as a challenge, so he chose Florida – the most active execution state at the time – to carry out his final murder spree). Personally, I think it has to do with the hypocrisy of taking a stand against murder…by killing people. The government becomes the bad parent who says, ‘do as I say, not as I do.’

    4. There’s also an argument to be made that death is too good for the worst of our criminals. Let them wake up and go to bed every day of their lives in a prison cell, and think about the freedom they DON’T have, until they rot of old age. When Ted Bundy was finally arrested in 1978, he told the police officer, “I wish you had killed me.”  Khalid Shaikh Mohammed (the architect of the 9/11 attacks) would love nothing better than to be put to death.  In his words, "I have been looking to be a martyr [for a] long time."

    5. Most governments are supposed to be secular, but for those who invoke Christian law in this debate, you can find arguments both for AND against the death penalty in the Bible. For example, Matthew 5:38-39 insists that violence shall not beget violence. James 4:12 says that God is the only one who can take a life in the name of justice. Leviticus 19:18 warns against vengeance (which, really, is what the death penalty amounts to). In John 8:7, Jesus himself says, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

  4. Yes.  I do agree with it.  It's easy for people to believe it's not your decision whether or not they die, but think of this; the crime/crimes they've committed usually have to be just completely in-humane crimes.  These people that do crimes that deserve the death penalty for one thing, knew of the possibility of that penalty before committing the crime.  Also, they are usually very good liars.  If they are messed up enough to commit a crime that big, and they get out of prison, or are paroled, then chances are likely it will happen again.  It is not true, not everyone deserves a second chance.  Alot of family of the victims aren't usually out so much for revenge in desiring the death penalty, but closure.  I personally know someone who's mother was murdered in a very brutal way, and he never got a full nights sleep again, until he knew that no matter what, this man could never do that to anyone else again.  People break out of prison, it isn't unheard of.  But because of the death penalty, this particular man will never be able to hurt anyone else, destroy anyones family again.

  5. i dont nobody deserves that kind of punishment

their punishment of being locked up for life is better than not having one, their true punishment will be in their afterlife where they'll be judged in

    "the summerland"

im not saying its right or wrong, but that is what i think.

  6. Death penalty for serious crimes such as; murder, serial killers..rapists..

  7. who would Jesus execute?

except for self defence there is no justification to kill people

trying to justify killing people is a sign of mental illness

(executing murderers is executing the mentally ill)

80 years of prison is cheaper than going through appeal prosess

If you ever get railroaded by junk science, will you be in favor of death penalty - then?

you cant set a dead innocent person freee again

when someone is sentenced to life in prison, often they will attempt to commit suicide. . why make it easy for them by doing it for them and giving them an easy way out?

  8. no that's totally wrong i mean no one deserve that kind of punishment

they have a family you know also they should just spend life in prison

  9. Depends on the crime, of course.

Take someone that writes and distributes a computer virus that costs me hours of anguish and effort to repair.  I would love to see them tortured for years upon years, especially if I were permitted to administer some of it.

However, the Constitution calls that "cruel and unusual", so I have to settle for the Death Penalty.

I just hope it hurts. A lot.

  10. Yes....  You cannot turn these creeps back out on society. So why drain the taxpayers by keeping murders alive behind bars? If it was a dog that was attacking people in the streets, you'd drag it out back of the woodshed, put a bullet in its head, and be done with it.  End of story.   It's a great deterrent to other would-be criminals doing the same thing. If they know the state or the feds will light them up like the 4th of July, they'll think twice before they commit a crime.

The taxpayer is no longer burdened with the expense --  You don't have to pay for their food, health, room, board, etc...

Society is safer and victims have closure -- You don't have to worry about them getting out and committing their crime again - so society is safer.

The poor SOB is no longer in agony -- you've put him/her out of their misery.
