Oscar Levant once said "There is a fine line between genius and insanity, I have erased this line" and roman philosopher Senecca said "There is no great genius without a touch of madness."

Do you agree with these and what do you think they mean (My two favorite quotes)

  1. agreed.........im phsyco because i think about stuff too much lol

  2. I agree. Here is another quote for you: Science has not yet taught us if madness is or is not the sublimity of the intelligence.

    -Edgar Allen Poe

  3. these quotes are amazing, ive heard the first one before, also my favorite. i agree with them..a person cant be incredibly smart without going insane, or crazy!

  4. Yes.

I mean, doesn't every genius seem just a tad bit twisted? It probably keeps them driven to KEEP excelling.

  5. genius and insanity or madness are perceptions one group has of another. Ask a bunch of instituted crazy people who's crazy and they'll tell you the doctors.

Many now revered scientists were considered mad for thinking outside of the box, in their given time, and many took hundreds of years to be recognized whether for prestige or profit. I believe the genius is genius only because he had the means and perseverance to fight for his beliefs. The "insane" will give up and say "to h**l with them, I'm right and that's it" and their idea will likely be made popular by a "genius". The insane will simply be happy with the fact that he was right all along. I guess he'll be perceived insane for not following through with his idea, just think of the profit and prestige he gave up?

  6. Yep- think Albert Einstein.

He was a GENIUS but he was definitely a little insane lol. Therefore, there is a very fine line.

  7. If you think about it, both of these individuals are right. How often do you come across someone who is regarded as a genius, and yet they have no eccentricities about them at all? h**l, Einstein was suppose to be one of the most intelligent men of the 20th century, and just take a look at his hair.

Quite clearly if you are truly intelligent, if you can, as they say, outsmart your way out of a wet paper bag, then you are 99% of the time going to be a little bit crazy for one reason or another.

The real question then is why? Why can't you just be genius alone and live the life? Does being slightly mad somehow balance out the massive brain power, or is it simply a side-effect of almost always being right? Maybe something like an ego symptom of sorts.

  8. my and oscar levant are tight.

    hardcore.

  9. Sure. I agree. I'm not a genious but I'm an artist (hehe a little bit mad man). :-)))!

  10. I agree. Both of these quotes are saying that to truly be a genius you must have a touch of insanity. True geniuses have the ability to  push boundaries. To do this they must have a different way of thinking then the normal person. Their different perspectives on life enables them to think "out of the box", thus being able to solve problems or come to conclusions about things that the normal person wouldn't be able to comprehend on their own.

  11. Agreed.

  12. I like it. An insane can be a genius. This is true. But real insane is real insane, and never genius, just crazy mental disease. This is also true. So we must decide a clear line...
