"For the past twenty five years, culture has been obsessed with making males and females more alike, and thats fine. Maybe its even enlightened. But what I've noticed- at least among young people- is that the convergence has mostly just prompted females to adop the worst qualities of men. It's like girls are trying to attain equality by becoming equally shallow and selfish. Whenever I see TV shows like Fox's Defunct Ally Mcbeal or HBO's s*x and the City, I find myself perplexed as to how this is something viewed as an "advancement" for feminism; it seems to imply that its empowering for women to think like all of the stupidest men I know (myself included). .." 1. We have things alike but even though we have our differences, everyone has their own views of what those differences should be or where they originate.  What you think makes a man a man might not be what someone thinks make a man a man...or what women are or should be about.

I think it's best for us all to just be who we are inside and how we feel.  Not by what society drums into our heads of gender role playing.

  2. I agree with the statement because it's true, and I disagree with this statement because this isn't a problem that feminists are embracing, but, for the majority, are trying to dispell.

The ideas that women are sexual creatures is a long embraced feminist teaching.  They've liberated women to feel proud of their sexuality rather than ashamed of it, and it's a wonderful, beautiful thing.  The problem is that with this liberation, we have people distorting the teachings so that women -think- they HAVE to be sexual creatures.

I had a teacher tell me that if I a L*****n make out session with my "BFF", then guys would DEFINATELY like me.  I told her that I was not a sexual creature for "the guys", but for myself, and so I was only going to please myself.  She gave me the funniest look; like I'd just told her I crawled out of the sewer and met Santa Clause.

I can't wait until I get my teaching degree so that I can be the first person to slap these girls and tell them that they're acting like little idiots.

  3. Totally agree! Feminisms are dismissed too easily and the illusion of equality between the sexes is sold to us predominantly through the media. This culture does disservice to women and men.  The game seems different, but the rules are still the same. Men and women's behaviour is still judged very differently.  Falling into the trap of believing that we are sexually liberated to enjoy the same privileges as men in that sphere is fundamentally dangerous. You see, no matter how glamourous these women seem, society still condemns women as wanton s***s and men as entitled to the conquest! That is why empowering women has never and should never be about encouraging them to be like or aspire to be men! Feminism is about affirming the existence, experience and place of women.

  4. believe it or not, thats true., i agree

  5. I tend to agree.  I have noticed that the young women of today are taking on all the worst qualities of men in thinking that would make them equals.  Men and women could raise each other up to a higher level but for some reason we have a large group who refuse and would rather lower the genders into degradation.

  6. I don't want to spend my life as Sarah Jessica Parker.

  7. I would say it is true to a point.  Men and women  a~like need to look into the heart of them selves.  What ever your heart is focused on, there you will find an essence of who you are.  Sometimes it can be very un~pretty...

It isn't always about Me me me, as many of us may view it at times.  Life can be so good...  But each person has to want it for more than just ones self.

  8. It's pretty funny. And if the point of that quote is that better, more dignified behavior would be nice from everyone (both male and female), then I agree.

  9. Ally McBeal and s*x and the City are NOT feminist shows, and I can't recall if they were ever touted as such. The women there may have high-powered jobs and plenty of their own money to spend, but they take little pleasure or interest in them; their top priority is s*x. There was an episode in which Carrie dated a politician, and Samantha freely admitted that she voted for whoever was more attractive. Nobody even questioned her.

  10. what can I say is......men and women ....we have our own duty that we should not share...for example.......to be a housewife, its only suitable for women not for men and to be a construction worker, only men can do that ......men and women are equal......if the feminism see the other way .......it is all because of the capitalism......feminism should put the blame on capitalism and materialism

  11. Maybe it's correct, but everyone has the right to bring out their worst qualities if they so desire. Freedom isn't always pretty.

As for s*x & The City, why does everyone always presume that it's some kind of feminist entity?
