  1. He should have married her - period - and then snubbed everyone who disapproved, as well as ban them from court.

They should have been allowed to make the choice together, as a married couple, whether to stay or leave!

  2. Wallis Simpson was an extremely lucky woman to have met someone who would give up everything for her, even if it meant giving up his crown as King of the United Kingdom. Although legally Edward could have married Mrs. Simpson and remained king, his various prime ministers opposed the marriage, arguing that the people would never accept her as queen.

The King informed the Prime Minister that he would abdicate if he could not marry her. The Prime Minister then presented Edward with three choices: give up the idea of marriage; marry Mrs. Simpson against his ministers' wishes; or abdicate. It was clear that Edward was not prepared to give up Mrs. Simpson. By marrying against the advice of his ministers, he would cause the government to resign, prompting a constitutional crisis.

Rather than give up Mrs. Simpson, Edward chose to abdicate, making him the only monarch of Britain, and indeed any Commonwealth Realm, to have voluntarily relinquished the throne in order to be with the love of his life. This was a huge sacrifice for a King to make, and he proved us all that "love" can out win everything including power and status.

  3. Looking back, it was probably best that he abdicated. Wallis Warfield Simpson was not the first married woman he had a long-term affair with. For whatever reason, he pursued difficult relationships and probably would not have had children. In reading biographies of him, Wallis, and other royals, he is portrayed as someone who is easily influenced, easily led, couldn't make up his mind and stick to it. He also didn't see the problem with Hitler: in fact, he and Wallis toured Berlin and he was captured on film giving the Heil, Hitler salute. The jobs he was given after he abdicated, during the war, he performed indifferently. One reason he was made governor of the Bahamas was because he could do so little harm there. I think he would have been a disastrous king during WWII. In contrast, George VI did an outstanding job, plus his reign gave time for Elizabeth to train for being queen.

  4. Agree, he loved her enough to do it.

Although divorce had bee around for century's in the country at this time Mrs. Simpson would have been looked on as a w***e, who could never have been Queen.

The Monarchy was still struggling for survival at this time, the recent loss of the Russian and German peoples monarchs had caused tension in the UK, it wasn't like today where Camilla can be Queen, the people would have revolted having an "American w***e" on the throne.

My favourite fact is that Edward stole the Prince of wales crown when he left the country and a new one had to be made to crown prince Charles.

  5. No, he was the king.  I think he should have married her and made her the queen if other people liked it or not.

  6. I'M SORRY BUT NO p***y IS GOOD ENOUGH TO GIVE UP A THORNE!! AND SHE WAS USED UP IF SHE WAS A VIRGIN AND HE WAS THE 1ST THEN MAYBE IT WAS WORTH IT BUT..COME ON!!!!

  7. Yes, agree with his action.

It was his choice to make.

I think he tried to force the government to agree with his position, and when they wouldn't, he was forced to go through with his threat.

He didn't have the nerve to stick it out, get married and risk public disapproval ~ and would probably not have had the nerve to be King during WW2.

Instead, his brother, George did a fine job.

    Cheers :-)
