When deep disagreement is known, or suspected, people may need to feel the need to establish mutual respect before diving into issues.

  1. One must respect the views of another and be willing to listen to the reasons for the views - otherwise they will dismiss them off hand as just nonsense, which is OK if the person can&#039;t substantiate their views with valid evidence.


  2. Let me guess, you&#039;re taking Psychology 101 this term, right?  lol  I agree with you...usually establishing a commonality  helps to produce a more civilized debate.
