Not necessartily we have private fire companies in Phoenix that handle much of the work cheaper than a government bureaucracy would.

Local gov;t, yes.  Fed gov't, no.  

Logging and opening the forests to private industry management will significantly slow the spread of fires.

Only if it threatens homes and those that it threatens should be taxed extra for the added cost of living in the boonies. I'm sick and tired of subsidizing these countrified,yuppies who absolutely must live in the midst of a Redwood grove.----I cannot believe Brian C.-so a more Conservative fire policy would be to denude our Forrest's and just let the topsoil run off into our drainage systems-kind of like China did in the last millennium and why they now stir fry everything so quickly to save fuel? Jesus am I glad they are on their way out,mindless buggers.

Firefighting absolutely should be a government priority. It is one of the few permissible priorities of the government.

Before the government got involved, and in countries without government run fire service, the pay firefighters would show up  at fires and demand payment (on the spot) to put out the fire. If you couldn't pay then they would loot the house. Also they would set fires just so they could put them out.

Since the reason why we have such horrible fires is because of liberal government mandates of re planting every time we cut and stopping natural fires before their natural end has significantly increased the numbers and devistation of them I believe that they should take care of them.
