I live close to one of the largest cities in the U.S. The smaller towns in the metro area just became bedroom communities over the past 50 years (suburbs). Shopping, healthcare and entertainment still was centered around the larger city. In the past few years there has been a move to build up the forgotten 'downtowns' of the smaller towns. I believe we are going back to living, working and buying locally. With the cost of fuel it is necessary. I'm ready for this change.

  1. I have to admit, there's something nostalgic about it. I live in the suburbs, but like the idea of moving into the city when I retire to walk most places and feel a sense of community that time has kind of forgotten.

  2. I can't honestly answer your question because I live in a rural area (population 900...Yes,  900!!!!!). We have always bought locally.  NO big retailers within a 65 mile radius.

Although we have a Rite-Aid 9 miles away, everything else is mostly mom and pop owned.
