Especially when their on duty...

Like when they throw their lights on just to get somewhere,

Or run lights, when there is no emergency!

  1. Yes!!! They have sworn an oath to uphold the law. If anything, they should be held to a higher standard. Instead, many have gotten away with murder - literally.

    Some people sleep soundly while others get nervous walking or driving down the street.  I've seen what corrupt cops do and they give a bad name to the decent men and women - officers who serve honorably and care about the job that they do.

  2. You're asking that the cops police themselves for minor infractions? I'd settle for them not covering up murders and other serious felonies that their fellow cops commit..

  3. If you can prove they broke the law then they should be...whether on duty or not.

    They tell us that no one is above the law but obviously that isn't true...is it.

  4. I think the police should be the example of law abidance. They should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen, in fact they should hold each other to that standard.

  5. h**l if I were a cop, I'd abuse the c**p out of my police lights. On a serious note though, if a cop does something wrong or breaks the law I do believe they should be fined, just like anyone else breaking the law.

  6. In answer to your question, absolutely. As a Police officer I have been photographed going through red lights twice (once travelling code 2 to a man threatening bar patrons with a knife and another during a pursuit of a person wanted in relation to sexual offences and a return to prison warrant) I was not issued a ticket because I was in the execution of my duty.

    A few years ago I wasn't pay attention to my speed (on duty) and got photographed traveling 72kph in a 60 zone. Not in execution of my duty and received a ticket. I made a mistake, stuck my hand up and admitted it and was punished accordingly.

    My point is we are not and never have been above the law. There is a reason that we have an exemption to certain things in the course of our duty. It's so that we can get to you in time to save you from situations where there are threats to your life or to your property.

    I have never heard a police officer say "sorry you got beaten up, but all those pesky red lights just weren't going my way".

    I am borrowing from another contributer here EL SCOTT;

    "We sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm." George Orwell

  7. Absolutely. Police have no more right to break the law than anyone else.

  8. Fines and then tickets.
