  1. of course we are..

  2. Maybe when they're drunk they are the friendliest:)

  3. British people is a very loose term to describe different sects of people within the UK.  I suppose it depends on what part of the UK you are from...scottish and northern irish people tend to be more fun and friendly whereas a lot of places in england you can live in for years and never once meet your neighbours

  4. I am british and I dont agree with this.

  5. Ha ha ha, thanks for the joke. It's nice to know that some people can consider us to be very friendly and polite but really the UK is full of backstabbers and unfriendly people. We also have a reputation of being whingers. So thank you for the compliment but this really is too funny.

  6. Yes. When I lived there I was often patted on the face by peoples fists on a night out. And the hospital staff were always considerate in making me wait for long periods afterwards. After living in Japan for seven years I have yet to encounter this type of kindness from the locals.

  7. LOL, were did you hear that?

  8. Some are but some aren`t I suppose it`s the same everywhere.

  9. im british, and I would say we are more layed back and will speak to anyone one.

I wouldnt say we are all polite though

  10. No, they are neither, the famed " british reserve " is still very much a fact, as for polite, are you kidding, done any shopping recently ?

  11. No absolutely not - I am British by the way but honestly, in London they have to be the rudest people.  They ignore each other, push past people and do all that passive aggresive stuff to keep space on tube/buses.

Basically we have lost curtesy and manners in this country - the kids don't even speak properly any more its all 'innit' and swear words and eating food and drinking on the streets.

Disgusting and embaressing - no wonder loads of decent British people are leaving this country.

  12. Some are polite and friendly.  Most are friendly.  Many are far from polite and when they are drinking they are noisy, inconsiderate, rude and agressive.  Some are neither polite nor friendly at all times.

  13. I came to the UK about twenty years ago.  I found them friendly, but reserved.  Other nationalities were much more welcoming.

Some people are very rude and aggressive - in the first week I was here I saw more rudeness than I had ever seen in my life.  A woman yelled at me for not looking where I was going - she was 15 feet away from me, people treated my children (polite, friendly and very well behaved) as though they were things, a man yelled at me because someone had pressed the pedestrian button, bringing him to a stop (I was waiting to use the telephone), I saw a woman (beautifully dressed, but stinking of urine) scream abuse at an elderly passer by simply for existing, and I had people openly mock me by making monkey noises at me (I am a white African).  My children were told to go home where they came from.

So no, I don't think they are the most polite and friendly people in the world.

On the other hand, I have made very good friends and this is now my home.

  14. I find people generally from around Europe tend to be the most polite, but at the end of the day you can't really generalise

  15. No definatly not. I work in a place where I seerve people from a variety of heritedges and the english are generally the rudest and compalin more.

  16. no

  17. Some may be but not all.

  18. You cant say everyone is inpolite rude agressive

there is alot of people i know who are very friendly, genuine nice people.

I know some people are the opposite.

and i am sure its like that in most countries.

In a way i think we are, because their is so many charities going on, and we always keen on helping other countires when they are in need.

(c.mon guys we have to defend our country too. )

  19. lol!! dont make me laff!!

  20. yeah and the ones you deffinatly dont wanna s***w with!

  21. Polite most of the time here in Spain the British are called the Por favories because we say please and thank you (something the Spanish rarely do) However we also have the reputation of being unfriendly, rude, arrogant, loud, and extremely badly behaved especially when drunk, not a great reputation to live with.

  22. you're having a laugh

      :s

  23. The trouble is, it's hard to find people who will call themselves 'British'.  We tend to split into our ethnic groups - for example, I would call myself Scottish, rather than British.

And all cultures have their stereotypes.  My culture is perceived as tight with money and heavy on the alcohol consumption, English people are perceived as Xenophobic - the stereotype of someone going to a foreign country and shouting loudly in English because the native population isn't making the effort to understand them.

Personally, I have found people in the south of England - London and the SE counties - to be less likely to speak to me if I make a comment about the weather, the bus/train we are both obviously waiting on, etc.  Further north, people are more willing to talk to strangers at a bus stop, I feel.

  24. Yes - and a large boar has been spotted cruising at 20,000 feet.

  25. British people are well mannered and polite

    however not friendly,chatty,enthusiastic

  26. i live in the uk..

and have visited different countries... in my opinion all countries are the same..

there are friendly and unfriendly people  everywhere..

  27. Friendly, NO!  Polite, VERY yes!
