Question:

Do you agree with NBC about medals?

Now that China has more gold medals than the USA, NBC are reporting on the total number of medals won - which puts America top. So NBC are saying that if China had 100 gold medals, but the USA had 101 Bronze, then America is the better team?

I know the USA is a relatively new country - but shouldn't they grow up a bit quicker? The Olympics are about athletes pitting themselves against the best in the world - not politics.

Or have the games turned into 'Who has the most medals?'. If that is the case, then it is always gonna be the country that can field the largest team. Say no more!

  1. Medals have always been counted by who has the most.  Gold is the tiebreaker, always has been always will be.

What the h**l does a long running tradition of how medals are counted have to do with politics????  Maybe its time for you to grow up a bit!!!!!!

  2. There should be a point scoring system

3 for gold, 2 for silver, 1 for bronze.

I think that would make it fair.

  3. The count is by the amount of GOLD medals won. That's the way it's been for years and there's feck all NBC can do about it!

OHIOAN: No, NBC aren't violating any rules but why the h**l are they trying to change something which has stood for years? Seems everything has to be done THEIR way or no way. And don't you think it's about time they stopped the biased reporting? They conveniently went to a commercial break whilst a BRITISH girl made a bit of history in the swimming pool when she won DOUBLE gold and totally ignored Christine Ohuruogu when she beat the favourite - who just happened to be from the USA. Fostering good relations? I think not - and as I stated in a previous answer, I hope they bloody choke on their sour grapes!

  4. No, I think it should be done how it is done - to reward the difference between 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

  5. if you work out how many medals per number of people in the country GEORGIA win (one gold per 2 million people); if you work it out as number of gold vs the GDP (money) then NORTH KOREA win...

isn't it all about the taking part?

and today, by the way, i read a report how it cost the UK gov. GBP 10 million per gold medal.

we seriously need to stop being so literal

  6. I think it's fair either way.  Winning silver and bronze medals is no easy feat and I think those medals deserve recognition. To count them in a country's total as far as ranking makes sense to me.

  7. Yes, please grow up and act mature.

  8. I don't understand why people are making this an issue. Is NBC violating any rule in reporting the medals this way? Why are people so obssessed about this? I think you should grow up if all you are caring about are things like this. Can you not sleep at night over this?

  9. I think more weight for a gold. how about 5 for gold 3 for silver and 1 for bronze.

This would put China currently at 339 points

    USA ar 322

        :)

  10. The table will always be the one that shows the USA in the better position. We do it here in GB as well. (I wonder where we got it from?)

  11. I grow weary of people acting like the US is the only nation counting medals.

Everyone, and I do mean everyone measures themselves against the United States. Do you think the fact that China has more gold medals than the US means nothing to them? If your beloved Australia had more medals than America, do you mean to tell me that wouldn't mean anything to the people in your country?

Your question sounds like childish envy. You should use your "growing up a bit" lecture on yourself.
