i think it was a racist comment him saying it is now a time the Chinese "can stand tall"

I I didn't hear what Mr. Brokaw said and in what context, but perhaps he meant with the olympics it was their time to show off what they can do and make their human rights policies more transparent to the world when it comes to issues like Tibet, total internet access etc.

Whether he meant it as a racial comment or not I think it's inappropriate.  Their Human Rights record is atrocious.
