One of the most disappointing things that I remember experiencing after becoming Muslim was the realization that there is severe racism amongst the Muslims.

It was particularly disappointing to me because I (like many other converts in the mid 90’s) was told specifically by Muslims who were calling me to Islam that Muslims did not have this problem.

It was not that they were lying to me, they sincerely believed what they were telling me. But, for the most part, I don’t think that da’ees tell people this anymore. And no responsible da’ee should.

Malcolm X was only Muslim for a few short months before he was murdered, so he did not live to see many of the problems of racism we see today.

Walhamdulillah, we know that Islam is true and this is obviously not an indictment of Islam in spite of the mistakes and actions of the Muslims themselves, who are only human.

After embracing Islam, I began to see these things. One of the most telling incidents was where a five or six year old Arab child got into a fight with an African-American child, and the Arab child was insulting the African-American child with the most severe insults he could think of calling him the “son of a black woman”, “slave”, ”******” and other things. I have witnessed several other similar incidents.

I was so shocked that the children learn this behavior so early in their lives, seeing children as young as four laughing at black children and already picking up the insults.

  1. Unfortunately for most Africans (Black ones) they experience racism from almost every country. I am not saying everyone from every country is racist, but Africans have it worse off than many other races do when it comes to racism towards them!

  3. that's what i am trying tell people, they don't listen to me. Arabs are racists.

    May allah(swt) guide them.

  4. In the Holy city of Mecca, you wont see that ever. Islam is the religion that erases that line of segregation. But Muslims are people and they make mistakes. I am an African American Muslim and I don't see that much racism these days.

    Salaam.

  6. I was told by an acquaintance(non-muslim) years ago that Arabs are some of the most racist people. It is easier to judge others from a distance because it isn't as personal -- you can easily strip a person of their humanity this way by not knowing them. But the closer that you get to them it is harder to deny that we are all the same; same fears, insecurities, the need to be loved, accepted and valued. I for one have had one personal experience with racism from a Muslim that was Arab, but i did not and will not ever judge all Arabs by this single experience. At our mosque, all of the Arabs from different countries and cultures are some of the most loving, warm, caring accepting people I have ever met. They will do anything for you black, white, yellow, red. And they always encourage unity. I think that i have been very fortunate to have known them. There are good and bad people everywhere. i know that it is cliche', but it is true. There is a saying, i think it goes "Be aware of the negative, just don't dwell on it".

  7. i cant deny wat u've said. ive met a whole lot of rascist muslims [against blacks], not just arabs. i dont understand rascism! its pointless, and one of the oldest things on this planet!

  8. What's your point?

Are you trying to say that ONLY Arabs are racist?

Just because that 1 particular arab decided to be an idiot, does that mean all arabs are like him?

    GOD HELP YOU..

    Ameen!

  9. yeah you do have a point, and i know exactly what youre talking about.  I'm an african american muslim myself, and to feel racism coming from someone you would die for, is quite sad and upsetting.  It shows how one could label themselves a muslim while actually being a non-believer.  But i wouldnt single out arabs though, even though a lot of them can be quite arrogant and cocky.

  10. One time I was walking down the street making dhikr and a group of three Black Muslims, two women in hijab and a man, yelled at me, "White trash White Trash!" totally unprovoked. I just ignored them. Arabs have been mean to me, Pakistanis have been mean. Everyone in the world is stuck in their little niche. But maybe instead of cursing human nature we should work with it. God says we were created to know each other, not to hate each other. God didn't say we have to blend into one homogeneous culture. So probably I need to connect with my particular ethnic group as much as others connect with theirs, get whatever support I need to feel "normal,' and use what gifts I have to contribute to the Muslim Ummah. No racial group, when begging for money, ever cares about the ethnicity of whoever is willing to help them. And so, we should try to be the giving hand in the equation.

  11. It's not just African Americans being discriminated against, or Arabs who are being racist.  I'm white, a convert, and honestly believe that some born Muslims think they are superior and more knowledgeable on Islam then converts.  I think that racism is definitely a problem among some Arabs and some Muslims, but to say that all Arabs are racist, and all born Muslims have a superior notion to converts is stupid and ridiculous.

  12. I understand that maybe you have suffered some racism, but this is not the way to deal with it. Rather than anger people, try to educate people. I myself have experienced racist Muslims from most nationalities, but that's no reason to doubt the whole of that nationality becuase there have been plenty of others of that nationality that have proved these things wrong. What you are doing is not better than what you are complaining about. You are branding all arabs and painitng them with the same brush, just as you claim they have done to you.

You should be an example. The example you are setting is nothing to go by. Rather than tormenting arabs or any other race here, which have all been amazingly kind, try to educate people and disprove steriotypes. All you are doing right now, is letting down your own race by creating steriotypes for yourselves.

When something bad happens t you, you don't wallow in self pity, you get out there and so something to change the source of the problem and help people. Right now what you are doing isn't kind and is racist plain and simple.

  13. Were you abused as  child or maybe hit on the head....?
