Do you all think Carlos Zambrano or Ryan Dempster can win the Cy Young award this season

and which one of them do you think has a better chance of winning 20 games

Neither will win the Cy Young award.  It is either going to Brandon Webb or Dan Haren of the D-Backs.

I think they both have a very good chance at winning the Cy Young.  They don't have a whole lot of competition this season.  There was a question yesterday on who was the last pitcher to win the Cy Young with a losing team and the last time that happened was 1972 with Steve Carlton.  That pretty much eliminates the candidates of Edison Volquez and Tim Lincecum (both of whom I feel deserve it more then anyone else because of ther winning record with garbage teams).  So really I think the only NL contenders will be Brandon Webb (you can cancel him out if the Dbacks miss the playoffs), Carlos Zambrano, Ryan Dempster and Ben Sheets.  So yes, I think there's a 50% chance 1 of them wins it.  Also I think both of them have a shot to hit 20 wins, but I give Zambrano the bette chance because most of Dempsters wins have come at home (10 of his 11 to be exact) and he doesn't get the opportunity to throw at home as much as the first half of the season.

Z definitely has the better chance, but either of them certainly could win it.  Good start to the 2nd half for Z last night.  Demp goes tonight!

Dempster has been more impressive than Zambrano so far this year. He has 21 more Ks in 3 fewer innings pitched and batters have a .208 average against him (.238 for Big Z). I think what will hurt Dempster is that he was used as a reliever for several years prior to this and he may wear down late in the season. Because of this I think Zambrano has a better shot at 20 wins and the CY Young Award.

That said, unless he implodes I think Brandon Webb will win the CYA and Lincecum could be in the hunt, as well.

I believe Zambrano has the better shot at winning twenty games.  He has a legitimate shot at winning the Cy Young Award, but I think that will be going to someone else...most likely Brandon Webb
