Question:

Do you always have to have a DNC?

I only knew I was prego for about 5 days. By my dates they estimate just 6 or 7 weeks along. Then I started bleeding very heavy, passing tissue and all my prego symptoms are gone. The doc hasnt examined me yet b/c he want to wait until I am not so tender but we all know it was a miscarriage. Is a DNC or whatever it is called always needed?

  1. I am sorry.  I answered your question the other day.

Anyways, I had 3 miscarriages, but only had a DNC w/ one of them.  The one that I had the DNC was when they found the baby wasn't viable.

The other 2 miscarriages, I bled lots, and had what they called a "natural miscarriage" (not too sure what is natural about it), and no DNC was needed.

    Best wishes

  2. no ont if you have already passed it naturally

  3. I'm very sorry for your loss.

    No, it's not always needed.

  4. No. I had one with my first miscarriage, but not with my 2nd. With my 2nd I was further along, but had passed more..the doc did a sonogram twice to be sure nothing was left and told me I wouldn't need one. Sometimes your body will naturally pass everything. I'm so sorry :( On a side note...I've got a healthy baby boy (almost a year old) so it is possible! If you need to talk feel free to e-mail me!

  5. No - if you are early like you were they recommend you do it naturally. Now the doctor will want to monitor your hcg levels and make sure they return to 0. Im very sorry about your miscarriage.

  6. First of all sorry about your loss.  No, a D&C (Dilation and Curettage) is not always needed if it is early in the pregnancy.  The only reason it would need to be done is to get the remaining tissue out,  if its early than the tissue will pass on its on.
