TR...I did the same thing..thinking it was the Holy Spirit. At first, I followed spirit guides..then gave them up for what I thought was the Holy Spirit. Got a feeling it was neither..and I know it wasn't ME. I should have known that when it was causing trouble..it wasn't from a good source. I'm sure a lot of people still do this. I was ADVISED to do this..then the ones who advised me..turned on me. Go figure!!

  1. Honestly, I've never had one of my spirit guides ask me to do anything irrational, dangerous, or even questionable.  My guides do only one thing and that is guide me along the path that I should take, or they may encourage me to take a certain course, but I have learned over time that it is in my better interests to listen when they do so.  To me a spirit guide is just another part of our spirit that is in sync with your concious and subconcious mind.  If I had questions about what I was being encouraged to do I would either begin questioning my own sanity, or the possibilty of an unknown outside force that has ill feelings towards me.  I have been told what to do in certain circumstances, I have been encouraged to take certain routes and actions over others,, but I have never been "asked" to do anything.  If that were to happen I would be seriously concerned.

  2. Mind and spirit guide should synchronize together. Then nothing can seem irrational.

  3. As you know, I do not believe in spirit guides.  However, I am able to reconcile my beliefs with what some people see as spirit guides.  I see spirits guide as a blend of your inner monologue, the wisdom of past experience and your conscience.  As such, when people ask about spirit guides, I just think of those things I mentioned rather than a distinct, conscious spiritual entity.  In so doing, I can't imagine anyone advising himself to do something bad or potentially harmful.  That being said, I have done more than a few stupid, irrational things in my time, but that was when my conscience and wisdom weren't very well established.

  4. Research into this area supports the theory that some spirit guides are dillweeds. If you have a dillweed for a spirit guide, it's probably a good idea to ignore him.

  5. I have Animal Allies (from Shamanic Journeys) rather than spirt guides so it may or may not apply to your question.

However, my relationship with my allies is not one where they tell me or even ask me to do something. It is a relationship where I go to seek advice and get differing perspectives on situations. No I do not always follow the advice of my Animal Allies even when it seems rational.

  6. most of all but sometimes  I obey them cause I know it's for my goodness

  7. I remember when I was a church-going believer and was often told to "pray about it" to find direction. Well, I did that, and had these conversations with what I thought was god, and sometimes afterward I felt more confident about a decision, sometimes not. Anyhow, when I felt like I received guidance, I attributed that to god's intervention.

Today, looking back I can see this with a 20/20 perspective and see I was just having imaginary conversations and using my own thoughts as signs of communication from above. I see no reason why communication with "spirit guides" would be any different. It's the same thing, you just changed the name of what you're supposedly communicating with.

When I was a believer I did what I thought god was telling me, and I suppose if I believed in spirit guides I'd also do what I thought they were telling me. I mean, why even bother with spirit guides if they're not going to give you reliable wise answers? I could just ask my friends & family instead and save the trouble. Besides, if I were irrational enough to believe in spirit guides, then I'd be irrational enough to follow the irrational advice that I thought they were giving me.

    Edit:  Animal allies?
