  1. No.  Should I?  Probably!  Then again if it's anything heavy I get the man of the house to do it for me, and he DOES predrill--always...


  2. not always, only for s***w or bolts larger that 1/4 inch in diameter. if you know where the stud is, and its going into sheet rock just s***w it in there. on the hand if it is plaster, definitely predrill and use anchors or mollys in the holes for extra support.

  3. Not if I can find the stud or if what I'm hanging isn't heavy.

    If you're drilling into drywall with no stud, pre-drilling will usually leave nothing for the s***w to "bite" into and it will likely fall out.

    Rule of thumb, pre-drill really hard materials; use self driving or regular screws for softer materials like drywall.
