  1. My grandmother has a back injury also....and her theoropy people but heat on it...also she has a heating pad that she puts on her back at night while asleep. Heat is suppose to be the best thing for it. You can get an heating pad at a local pharmacy....WALMART or TARGET. be sure not to put to much heat on there and if its uncomftorable ice it for five minutes....then let it relax for 10 then go back to the heat! :))

  2. ice for the first 24 houres for 10 -15 mins per round

    after that apply heat for 10 - 15 min

  3. i usually use heat, but my physical therapist said to try ice too.

  4. Cold. Ice it for the first few days or until the swelling and inflamation go down.  

  5. whichever feels better.  Cold will help with swelling, but heat will help to relax the muscle, so it depends on how you hurt it.
