  1. Err, people...'Home and Away' isn't real life, y'know. It's a *very* looooooooooooong way from anything even vaguely resembling 'real life'.

Think: Elvis Presley is alive and well, living on Mars, in a New York Taxi, with Nicole Kidman, whilst earning his living selling health products to elderly, rich, bulimic Aliens...oh and he's living next door to Lord Lucan...and just down the street from Amelia Earhart. THAT is the...umm...realism quota of your average Home and Away episode!!!

It's a sensationalist, teen orientated, Aussie soap opera with some of the most ridiculous, laughable and unbelievable storylines that one could possibly dream up; I swear their writers must surely be as high as kites on illicit substances to come up with half of the plots, characters and stories that they do, lol!

My guess'd be that any such book burning storyline will have had something to do with their 'religious cult/religious commune' storyline though.

  2. no. Mom should have monitored daughter or gave her a list of readings. Can't fault the teacher unless teacher was directing a project.

  3. So the mother burned a library book?

I'm basically against burning books, even bad books, because it's the mark of closed minds and the kind of people who are that threatened by alternative thoughts are a danger to people as well. The n***s weren't the only ones to do it but they give a good mental image of the kind of people who are into book burning. Anyone who burns books needs careful watching.

  4. First they burn one book, then they burn the library. Then what? Do they come into people's homes and destroy any information they find objectionable? I have not read Home and Away. I do believe book burning to be wrong. Have your read  Fahrenheit 451?

  5. Haven't read it, but I agree with the answer above - it's the parents' job to monitor what their child reads, not the teacher's.  Unless the teacher specifically assigned it - which "by accident" doesn't imply - it's the parents' fault for not being more attentive.

What is the teacher supposed to do - go through the backpacks of every kid in their school on a daily basis to make sure that they're taking home appropriate reading material?
