Do you ask your partner what they want for their birthday?

My birthday is coming next week and my partner has asked me what I want. Why do people do this? Surprise me!!! Does anyone else feel this way?

it depends. she and i both usually know what each other wants. lol. we both still get surprised though. like neither of use expects each other to get what we really want.

Yeah, I ask people what they want.

I would normally ask would he'd want and get it, but I would also get a surprise gift. That way he'd be doubly happy.

My boyfriend has been doing the same thing to me but I actually don't mind it. I think he just wants me to be happy with whatever he gets me, cuz I will admit that I am really picky. I just told him a whole list of things so he got the gist of what I would like.

We are beyond gift giving (Or, more accurately, we think gifts should be given to children only)

If we see something (modestly priced) that we think the other person would like, we buy it and give it to them regardless of what day or month it is.  

The gift exchange or the money shuffle is beyond me.  (I agree with you on that point)  It seems to me to be the equivalent of practicing all of the vices of the modern word in one fell swoop:  pretending to care about someone and reducing love to materialism.

That is:

If you care about someone enough to listen to them, you know what they like and what they want.  You don't have to ask.

If you love someone, you demonstrate your love and devotion by spending time with them, listening to them, and enjoying them.  They are your gift; you are theirs.

sometimes my partner could use or really wants a lot of things. that makes me 'insecure' to some degree  because i want to give her something special that she'll remember and keep. so, at times, i have asked her.  it's an insecurity thing from us who don't know what to give.

Dude my 21st b-day is on sunday and my guy has been asking me what i want lol... they want to make you happy they want to give you what you desire bro... thats why they ask.. it is kind of annoying though everyone asking lol.. so i feel you on this one.
